Help Request: Identify this part

Photo attached. Self closing Aluminum flap. I am guess it would normally be attached on the discharge of a fan. Not sure where it belongs. Not part of the vents that are discharging from the propane heater. Maybe supposed to be on a stove top fan.

Thanks

I'm not sure to what you are referring. I see the model label of a microwave.

What size is it? Like you said, it appears to be a vent flap for a fan of some kind. Where did you find it?

Size

Approximately 3 inches by 9 inches. Was in a cupboard drawer, in a cardboard three sided sleeve.

Very similar in size to a mail slot.

If I had to guess I would say its for the fan on a stove-top hood. Wondering if it wasn't installed since there is no propane burners (induction cooktop) ?? There is a hood fan on the microwave installed above the stovetop.

I'd say it is for the hood fan. If the exhaust fan vents back into the RV, then it is the piece that would have been inline to vent outside. Many hood fans offer the option of indoor or outdoor venting.

I recently installed a new over-the-stove microwave with a built in exhaust fan at home. If I were to use outdoor venting, I had a piece similar to this to allow it. Since the house has always had indoor venting, I didn't need to install it for the exhaust fan.

We can all guess... I see you have a 2018 Berkshire... what did the dealer say it was for?

No idea

Like most questions, dealer had no idea. I figure there is more knowledge on this board, and someone who has the same coach (I know there are 3 or 4 others with a 2018 XL 40C).

Came with Microwave

I think I found the answer. In the installation guide for the Microwave, there is an "Exhaust Damper Assembly", which is only installed for vented installations. My best guess is the set-up on the RV is a non-vented ductless operation, and the exhaust damper is not installed. Now to verify that there are charcoal filters installed on the fan.

Thanks to all who weighed in.

Unknown Part

I agree with the part being for a microwave vent as all RV and home units have this included in there installation kit for use depending on how you vent your unit.

And also learned this.....

The vent damper is not required to be installed, since the vent is re-circulating,,,,,but,,,,,, there is a charcoal filter that is suggested to be changed 6 - 12 months. I wanted to verify that there was one installed, but it is impossible to remove the cover on top of the door as the middle screw holding down the cover is not accessible due to the way the microwave is installed. I can take out the ones on the left and right face of the cover, but the middle one is vertical, and the microwave is installed at a depth that doesn't enable access to this screw.

If I can figure out how to take it down, I would throw away that screw and leave the cover be attached by the two screws on the left and right face of the plate. I think this cover also needs to come off if the light inside the Microwave ever needs replacement.

I guess Forest River doesn't want anyone to follow the Manufacturer (Sharp)'s instructions for the operation of this unit.

I think that would come with the microwave exhaust fan combination but seeing how these units are just recirculated in the unit someone probably just forgot to discard of it.

Sorry about your luck with your dealer.

When we had questions that our dealer couldn't answer, they called the factory (or whomever) and got us answers. They aren't all incompetent.

It is for a rear vent Microwave or standard range hood. It vents the exhaust out the back of the unit to the outside. There is a second piece that goes on the outside of the trailer.

That screw was installed somehow so there must be a way to uninstall it. Otherwise drill it out.

the charcoal filter is accessible without tools. Bend over and look up to the top of the hood. a small finger lever is all the holds the filter in place, the Light bulb is in the same place.

Screw was put in, then the microwave was mounted in place. Need to take it down to take it out. I am guessing it is supposed to be mounted with more clearance, but not the first poor decision on the install I have found.
