Question High beams on new Berkshire XL

I have a new Berkshire XL 40C with LED headlights. On low beam they work great but when on high beam the road is totally dark for about 75' in front of the coach. I tried headlight aiming but it can't be adjusted enough to help. I was told by Forest River that when high beams are on the low beams have to be off by law. I called Kaper (light manufacturer) and they say the low beam should be on when high beams are on. I'm wondering if I should splice in a jumper so low beams stay on? Will I have relay or fuse trouble?

The hi beams and low beams will not be powered at the same time due to only one relay to power both circuits. This is per the factory. On the older style both hi beam and low beams were not operable at the same time either. Coach headlight system is working as designed

That is what Forest River said. I'm afraid then that their design is flawed. The road is totally dark for at least 75' when high beams are on. I think I'll add a relay and wire it so low beams stay on. Thanks

I would not recommend adding a jumper wire, it may compromise the headlight relay or even some wiring as well. I would advise having the headlight circuit diagnosed and go from there

You're right, I plan to run a separate relay for the low beams and see how it works.

Another option would be to install LED Fog lights with separate switch which will provide a low wide light pattern to use in conjunction when you have your high beams on. This will help in poor weather conditions like fog when you're only running your low beams.

Maybe I’ll try it if my relay option doesn’t work. Thanks

I just installed LED bulbs and new diving lights in my Georgetown. While I was at it I rewired the high beam switch so that both hi and lo buns are on at the same time. I also disconnected the wire off the fog lamp relay so they would stay on with the high beams. Now I have no problem seeing at night. And since I’m one of the few left that sums the high beams for on coming traffic I don’t blind other drivers.
