Quick update... just came back from our trip and everything worked great. Only problem I had was I bought a surge protector thinking it would help (https://www.campingworld.com/southwi...amp-73995.html) but when I used it I would lose power after about 10 minutes. Also when I plugged it in and I was at my water hookup if I touched the door and then the water supply at the park I got zapped. If I removed it everything worked fine and no more shock so I think the surge protector is bad... anyone have any recommendations for a better one?

That device is only a surge protector. MUCH better is an Electronics System Monitor that also protects against low voltage (brownouts) which are much more prevalent and damaging to your electronics.

We have a hard wired Progressive Industries model PI EMS HW50C, but they also make a plug in version too.

PS, it sounds like yorus has the neutral and ground crossed,

or is it hot and ground crossed? somehow the hot seems to be getting on the trailer skin which is normally ground. regardless, you should not get a shock from the skin. look up 'hot skin' and see what it has to say about it.

i'm assuming the surge protector indicator lights are showing a properly wired pedestal. if it were mis-wired the indicator lights should indicate so, but that device will not stop the incorrect power from getting through.

do you have a three prong 120 volt polarity tester? (under $10 at any hardware store or walmart). if so plug it into one of the 120 volt receptacles in the rv. does it indicate proper polarity with and without the surge protector in line?
