Hydrogen

I finally put the coach in the Barn. The barn is heated and air conditioned so it’s pretty well closed in. Plugging in to a 50amp outlet will allow batteries to charge. Any danger here from making hydrogen gas? All six batteries are AGM.

Almost zero chance of hydrogen issues with AGM batteries.

The hydrogrn recombines within the battery and no venting under normal conditions.

AGM don't really "outgas" like the flooded type GC2 batteries. I think you should be alright. I would make sure the inverter is off and have the charger on "FLOAT" or "MAINTAIN" and you should be good to go.

I'd be more concerned about acid spill inside

If the batteries are INSIDE a compartment/ or under bed use a battery box to contain any leak...

been a long while since I've seen a battery split
but people may put something up against the battery and it can rub through

Acid spill from AGM batteries?????

Not even when broken.

they say they won't release acid.... But I guess I'm a bit dubious

I don't want to be that guy that reports some acid did leak and made a horrid mess in the expensive compartment

the glass mat may hold all the acid ... BUT liquids have a nasty habit of trying and find the lowest spot.

worth a adding a case for a bit of insurance if it is remotely possible?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Last time I had a leak was from welding on a old car ... battery absolutely hated it.... and exploded... But it was easy cleanup in the engine compartment with a water hose.

Take some time and read this:

https://www.power-sonic.com/blog/the...%20leak%20out.

The "mats" in an AGM battery are like a paper towel you've wet with water then squeezed extra water out so it doesn't drip.

In an AGM there's only enough electrolyte to 'wet the mats' which is more than enough to provide the necessary conductivity that makes the battery work.
