I hate my steps !!!!

It's official - I absolutely hate my steps... They are a POJ !!! I'm outside in my yard and all if a sudden my steps cycle in and out three times and no one is even close to the coach. Needless to say, they open on their own as I'm driving down the road... I've had them "worked" on at least three times to no avail...

So FR, if you ever read these posts - I HATE MY STEPS ....

I have the motor replaces 3 times in less than 3 years. When it went again I got Randy involved and Lippert sent an entire new step assembly.

That was done just before putting the unit into storage. Not too hopeful but am keeping my fingers crossed.

If it happens again I will replace with different manufacturer.

ernest, tell us how you really feel......lol.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. Either inside the motor assembly or at the door contact.

Oh I agree with you 100%
When we bought our current coach last year as we were walking up to look at it, the first thing I noticed was the LCI decal on the steps. I made the comment "S*^*! LCI steps" and the salesman kind of snickered. So far though (knock on wood) no problems at all.

Does sound like it could be a short though

I ended up buying a whole new step system as well. Make sure you get right one as they make many variations and one I bought is a one step like I replaced but drops lower. Works great and fast motor as step is out by time I walk on it. Original step I noticed people where stepping in it and it was still moving as it was much slower.

I hate my steps !!!!

I just took possession of a 2015 last weekend. Yesterday I went into the coach shut the door and did not hear the step retract. 20 seconds later the step retracts Oh goodie. My last RV was an Allegro Bus never had any step problems in 10 years.

That does stink.

To prevent them opening while driving (a HUGE safety issue), I'd find the fuse that they run on and pull the sucker before bugging out!!

A simple fix. The tech at Goshen got undet mime and in 5 minutes it was done. I wish I knew what he did so.

I don't have a coach! But I did put in 37 years in industrial maintenance
for GE..... I assume the steps automatically extend when you open
the door??? I guess they retract when you shut the door???
There has to be a limit switch on the door to tell the steps what to do.
IF the tech guy was under there a short time he MUST have been adjusting
that switch. Find the switch and make sure it's pushed in when the door
shuts..... IF the switch is borderline when the door is shut it could
do what you describe. It needs to be adjusted so it's pushed a little harder
when the door is shut.
Beyond that I can't help from here. Now if I were there and you had a
cold beer waiting I could help you!
Good luck!

Have any Berkshire owners seen their steps (left side) lean or tilt toward the back of the coach? I got under my coach and found the bracket the step is attached to is welded to a thin piece of sheet metal, less than 1/16 inch thick. Mine has begun to rip causing the step bracket to sag. As a fix I shot a carriage bolt down from the inside step down through the bracket. I would have it welded but with the material so thin I fear it will just rip again.

Anyone else seeing anything like this?

I am also thinking of getting a step support. Hate to but see no alternative.

My only issue has been motor overheating resulting in intermittent operation. LCI claims a bad motor so dealer replaced motor so we shall see if that corrects my issues.
