I have joined the STEP club
To Ernest and others that have had trouble with their Lippert steps I feel your pain now.
Last week coming home from Missouri I was flagged down by a passing motorist that my steps were out. No matter what I did I could not get them to retract. I was not crawling under to try to disconnect the linkage because of the pouring rain. Later that day the steps started to work normally.
I contacted Randy and he said to contact Lippert directly which I did. So far no real help from Lippert.
The rest of my trip home the steps functioned normally. Yesterday we left for Disney World and ran into heavy rain on I-95. Guess what-- the steps came out while driving and stayed out. I could not get them to retract again. After everything dried out the steps functioned normally. Lippert claims there units are water tight but obviously this one is not and something is shorting out when wet.
I am waiting to see what Lippert is going to do about it.
If others are having step issues, does it occur only when wet?

Hmmmm, that's a new one. Usually they either strip the gears or the motor burns out and they die, period.
In this case I would let everything dry out as best you can and then get under there with some liquid electrical tape and goop up where it looks like it's getting in.
Now, all that said, when it's out I don't think it sticks out past your mirror so if you're THAT close you may have other problems. The only place you MAY run into trouble is the curb in narrow toll booth lanes. I always try to use the wide load lane.....

I already used electric goop that I use on electrical connections on my boat. I also then wrapped any open connection with "rescue tape" to help prevent any water getting in. It did no good as the steps are still not working properly. Although they go in and out now, even with the "stay open" switch activated the steps will not stay out when parked.

Marty,
I have the problem of when we stop at a campground and Margaret goes in to register, the steps don't retract when she closes the door. They will retract one to two minutes after the the door closes. At first, I thought it was just my imagination, then I paid closer attention and realized that it was actually functioning that way. Of course, it is an intermittent problem.

My problem is a little different. Mine come out as we are driving for no apparent reason. Now when stopped they go in and out each time the door opens and closes.
Lippert is sending me a new controller and motor for me to install while we are here at Disney.
Hope that solves the problem.
Wish you were here with us.

I hope that solves your step issue. We wish we were there with you both also. Maybe in January. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

OH NO !!!!!! Not the "open step while you're driving down the highway thing"!!!!!! Karma really is a b...... isn't it....
Wait five years and you can finally get them replaced.....
Mine are working PERFECTLY now!!!! Thank you Lord....
Open steps WILL take out various items as you drive - construction cones, Ike riders, trash cans, etc....
Marty - I truly feel your pain....

Lippert is sending a all new guts to the steps. Hopefully that will correct the issue.
Will keep you posted.
Need to decide what next summer will bring and let you know.

Tom, we had that problem in 2014 when ours was pretty new. They fixed it at the rally. It was a loose ground somewhere under the steps. Took them less than 5 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't watch so I can't tell you exactly where the ground was.

I just joined the club as well. While traveling back from Florida the step decided it didn’t want to come out. Couldn’t get it to work, then the me t time we stopped it was working perfectly. When we got home, not working again. Sounds like a ground issue. Calling Lippert!
