on both the engine and generator. Cost was $471.00 at Johnny's RV in Mobile, Alabama. Posting this because some have posted a cost of over $1000.00 for that service.

Did this include a new air filter? Prior to trading in my Discovery I have this servicing done and I seem to recall the cost of air filter alone was about $300. I do know however that the cost of filters can vary dramatically depending on type and size.

Don't know what air filter you use, but if I remember correctly, I just paid around $70 for an air filter for my Cummins 6.7L engine.

You should ALWAYS check the price of the filters before they change them .
get all the filter numbers for your unit and call your local napa,carquest or oreillys and get there prices before you walk into the service center and ask them the cost of the filters before hand . some not so honest shops will triple the price . At the least you should pay nor more than list on what they were invoiced.

In Western Canada, $125 would be a good price even at the small independant shops.

Anything with RV in the name has crazy pricing up here. Why do you think the cross border and internet business is so big.

One example of this was my Blue Ox big rack ... a local dealer wanted about $800, yet I was able to order it from the States at less than $300 landed cost at my door. My Brake Buddy was also less than half the Calgary Price.

On another message board, many use the services of Speedco for their oil changes, grease, generator oil changes. Been pretty happy with the service, speed and prices..

Great advice. For example, a Motorcraft air filter for my 03 F350 is about 99. A Wix from RockAuto , around 79. A Baldwin from Truck Pro, 39. It pays to check around.

Shoot, I just had my wife's 02 Deville serviced and it cost $200+ and I furnished the 7.5 quarts of Mobil 1 oil. Air Cleaner, cab filter, oil filter, tires/wheels balanced, and a tank of gas. What ripped me, was last summer, we had a noise in the blower and took it to our local Cadillac dealer and they fixed the blower noise (leaves in the plenum which were removed thru the cab filter housing) and replaced the cab air filter - $135. Found out today the cab filter was the original 02 factory that was installed. So you can't even trust reputable Cadillac dealers.

We just picked our rig up after the oil, filters, etc, and the cost was $359 which included the NYS inspection. The hourly rate of $125 is pretty common now here in our area. I can't imagine what it is in NYC or Boston.

Check to see if you have a GCR truck and tire center in your area! Obviously I cannot vouch that they are all the same but the one we have here is outstanding. The mechanics they have are awesome, they will always come get you and show you what they're doing and what you need and never pressure you into anything. At the beginning of the year I take our Sunseeker class C in and I have the coach serviced, the generator serviced, and a front end alignment for just over $300. When I had my airbags installed camping world and one other RV dealership wanted almost $400 in labor to install them, these guys charge me $95 in labor.

We were just at our RV dealer last night. Their per hour service fee is $95. I thought that was outrageous.

For what it is worth, the per hour rate has to do mostly with the costs that the individual company is incurring. We generally tell a client that to make a profit on per hour charges you will need to charge four times what the worker is paid. The first part is, of course, the employee's salary. The second and third parts are the payroll taxes, insurances, and other overhead. Lastly is the profit part of the equation. A worker making $25 per hour would result in a billing rate of at least $100 per hour.
