Leaking Air

I can hear air leaking from underneath the chassis just behind the generator. After crawling under, I can see that the air is coming out of a solenoid type device. The air is leaking out at quit a good rate. I don't know if the device is related to the air suspension system or the air brakes. I would like to know if it is normal or if there is a problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

DandMBerk,
Welcome to the forum. There should not be any air leaking from under the motor home when you are parked. The only time air should come out is when you are levelling and the air bags are being dumped and the jacks extending. You definately have a problem. You didn't say what year your coach is so can not say if you are still under warranty with Freightliner but in any case, you should get it fixed immediately.

Hello,
Thanks for the welcome.
I purchased my new 2009 390TS Berkshire about three weeks ago. Air is definitely leaking out of a valve underneath. the valve is made by Norgreen #(V60P411A-A512JK). I am assuming that the valve is the air dump valve. My Berk does not have a manual air dump. I can't figure out how the air gets dumped or how it works. Nothing in the manuals or online.
Thankyou for your reply...Donn

Your dump valve automatically operates when you deploy your leveling jacks.

Those fittings on the valve are "shark" fittings and make a seal by just pushing the nylon tube into them. They can leak a bit if the tube isn't inserted far enough. We use the same fittings on our on-board air systems on our Jeeps. To release the tube from the fitting you use your thumb and forefinger to pull the collar towards the fitting and pull on the tube, it will slip right out. To put it back together you simply just push the hose back into them. I always make sure the collar is out as far as it will go once the tube is inserted then give a slight tug on the hose to be sure it is tight. Use some soapy water round the valve with the system aired up to see if it is the fittings or if it is because they aren't threaded into the valve body as far as they should be. You may find it necessary to remove the fittings, apply teflon thread tape to the threads and re-install if there is a leak in them.

Thanks for the replies.

I have contacted a Freight-liner service center in my area and am making arrangements to have the valve repaired. It is nice to be able to discuss problems like this on the forum.

Thanks again, Donn

All fixed up

I'm happy to say that the local Freightliner service department replaced my faulty air dump valve and it is working perfectly now.
