Mounting a Safe

Need help from Berkshire 390RB owners. I want to mount a small safe inside the coach and since I don't want to lose cabinet space, the logical place for mine is in the wardrobe closet on the shelf/shoe-rack.
I have not dis-assembled anything but as far as I can tell there is nothing going through that area. But, since Murphy loves to visit me so much, I thought it best to ask if anyone knows whether there is anything inside that shelf/rack that would be damaged when I drill two 1/4 inch holes. I also have the option of bolting through the rear of the safe, but going into the rear wall of the closet scares me even more.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

NO3putt: just to clarify - did you go to the actual floor of the closet or on the shelf/rack?

I put a small safe in the closet of our 5th wheel. I had to rip down some 2x4s to get the safe above the lip of the closet. Those were screwed to the floor, I then added a piece of plywood and mounted the safe to that, covering the screws from the plywood.

RKC02, on the raised area on the drivers side in the wardrobe. When drilling was very careful to drill slow and not punch through with the drill bit. Hopes this helps.

We also looked everywhere to mount a safe. My solution is to mount a "Stack-On Gun Cabinet" in the bedroom closet. The problem I found was is that the floor has a very flimsy facade that will not support anything. It covers the wash out for the optional washer drain as well as some of the wiring. I removed this facade and built (out of real wood) a replacement that would support the Stack-On Safe and not crumble. Only needed two pieces of wood, a top and front edge as the back edge is supported on the wall. I lowered it so it would clear the clothes rack and made its base wider to accommodate the depth. I will be able to send pics later the RV is in the shop.

I liked the idea of being to hold larger items as the cabinet is set up even for rifles. Another thing is that it opens with a key and not combo (no batteries to go bad). It is not fireproof (the least of my worries if my RV catches on fire).

You would think MOST manufacturers would install safes as a standard item. For what it's worth, I drilled and lag bolted our safe in the bedroom front closet right to the floor. It's pretty secure but someone with a wrecking bar wouldn't have much trouble prying it out. I'm going to make a false box cover to drop over and stack shoes on it. at least it won't be so obvious. Now, what do with my Hog leg 20g....hmmm.
