Murphy's Law
Well dang.... Left for our three week trip to Yellowstone yesterday...
Drove 460 miles to first CG (if it could be called that)...
Got up this AM and things went downhill from there... Got ready to head out and went to start generator and nothing... (Paid $874 two weeks ago for a new starter in it and worked all day yesterday as we drove with roof airs on.... Nothing today.... Not a happy camper - then the other shoe dropped...
Started coach and there it was - a warning on Freightliner readout - SHUT OFF ENGINE!! CHECK ENGINE!!! Well GREAT !!!!
Checked oil - OK... Called Freightliner and after pulling codes discovered that coolant level was low. Added 1 gal water and 2 gals of antifreeze.... Code went away... Was advised to go to Closest FL service center and have them do a radiator pressure test.... Decided to drive to Amarillo (120 miles)... Tried generator again and it started - what's up with that???
Pressure test revealed a major coolant leak - top radiator hose had a hole in it (rubbed by fan shroud)
Didn't have proper hose in stock so had to overnight new hose - be here in the AM so we're spending the night locked in the FL lot ... Plus - it's 105 degrees this very moment...
Sure hope and pray rest of trip is better....

Ernest, hope that is the last of your problems for this trip. Are you cutting up on I-25 to get to Yellowstone? If so, try to hit the Denver area around 10am ish to miss the rush hour traffic.

Ernest, taking it your coming across 87 to Raton to catch I-25 then up to Pueblo. There is not much for campgrounds here in Pueblo. Between Trinadad and Colorado City don't be surprized if you get a little side wind, we always do. Not a bad drive at all, we have done it many times, even once in a snow storm.
We live in Pueblo West.

Ernest, have a good camping spot next to house, 50amp power and water only problem there is a brown Berkshire sitting there. you might consider going 35 miles futher up towards Colorado Springs, there is a KOA just off I-25 at Fountian with pool. Suppose to be cool here today, only around 94 or so.
If you plan on staying in Pueblo, do you have a spot in mind other than the one taken next to my house?

No3putt.....
It all depends oh what time I get out of here today.... Still waiting on the part... It's "in transit"... Riiiiight....
Hope to make the Pueblo area... The KOA in CS is booked up... Had a spot there last night but had to cancel.... They charged me for the night anyway... I called back to see if I could just transfer the reservation to tonight and was told - we already have ur spot rented... Soooo - I guess that means they get double for that one spot...
Once I finally pull out of here I'll start looking for a spot.... May have to stop in Raton.... Need to be in Loveland tomorrow night - have a spot there already......

Ernest, we tryed to stop in Raton one time, drove through the KOA and keep going. There is a campground in Colorado City (KOA) and a campground in Walsenburg, haven't stayed in either one.
don't know if I could pull ours forward enough to put two lined up or not.

Never tried the KOA in Raton... We've stayed at the CG on top numerous times and it has always been OK... Used to be called Cedar Rail CG but has changed name...

Earnest,
Know the one your talking about, now called Raton Pass Campground and Cafe. Tell your DW there are worst places to spend a day or so, spent Two days at Salina KS Freightliner and two days at Alberqueque NM Freightliner. Atleast the Alberqueque location had full hook ups for RVs. Safe travels and hope you get underway shortlly.

Here's the hang up - as I stated earlier, had a $874 starter put in two weeks ago.... After struggling with it yesterday AM I finally got it started and used it until about 3 PM today when I shut it down to let techs check all batteries...... Would not restart.... Started just hummed and wouldn't engage...
Had already called shop (Monday AM) that put it in and informed them that I was having issues with it.... Said they'd call me today.... Never did.... When we couldn't get it started today, I flipped out... Called the "guy that was gonna call me" and let him know I really wasn't a happy camper ...
His response was - "we're ordering a new starter for you" I asked if he expected me to drive all the way home so he could redo his work??? "Oh no - we'll ship it to you and you can have it installed where you are". My response was - so if you've ordered it you'll get it Thursday or Friday and then you'll ship it to me which means I'll get it next Tuesday or Wednesday and then, IF I can find someone to install it - I'LL HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE ELSE ANOTHER $500 TO REDO WHAT YOU DID!!!" Silence from him... I then lost it again...
The service manager here at the FL service center then stepped in and suggested that they pull the starter, send it locally and have it rebuilt and then reinstall it... After some arm twisting, he got the original shop to totally cover the costs. (Which they should anyway)
They pulled the starter, sent it to be rebuilt and will install it in the AM.... We are camping at a close by CG.....
My wife Tommie stated that it's taking three days for this wagon train to just get out of Texas...
P.S. - here's something that has my dander up as well .... Original shop charged two hrs to take started out and another two hrs to I stall the new one - at $125 hr = $500. The FL mechanic removed it in 30 minutes (I watched him) and said another 30 to reinstall it... Now ask me if I feel totally violated by the original shop !!!!!

Good luck with FL. Every time I stay there I need a part. Every time they get the part its the wrong thing. We have to stay a couple of more days. Good thing the camping is free. Jim

Earnest, sorry to hear your troubles. Yep, sounds like the dealer where you had the orginal work done took advantage of you for sure. hope you get to Loveland on time but it's going to be a long days drive.

This FL service Center here in Amarillo is absolutely fantastic.... They have truly bent over backward to take care of us....
They actually cut me some slack on pricing and actually this generator issue isn't something they normally deal with but they stepped up to get it fixed....

Oh - the tech installed new starter in 20 mins today not the 30 he thought it would take...
