New floor in '08 Berkshire
I am in the beginning stages of installing a laminate floor in my 2008 Berkshire 390QS. I am posting my progress on RVPics.com if anyone is interested in seeing the photos. I will continue to post my progress as the project unfolds until it is complete.
This is the link to the thread.

I installed the laminate floor in what was a bedroom now an office some years ago.
It turned out to be easier than I thought and looks great.
I would like to follow your "blog" but do not wish to join another forum just yet, look forward to updates you post here.

dontech,
I'm so glad you're writing such a detailed blog. Thanks a million!!! My 08 Berkshire carpet is in much worse shape after a few trips this year to muddy, wet parks with two dog that can't walk past a muddy hole. Our floor plans are slightly different but the "chores" will be the same. Again - great stuff so far - keep it coming!

No problem. We've worked out the rules interpretation... and it got done a lot faster than our congress could have handled it.
The floor is done. All that's left is to move the furniture back in place, which we'll do today or tomorrow. I'll take a couple of final photos after that happens. I'm very pleased with how the floor came out and would recommend the project to anyone with a few basic carpentry skills.

Very nice job Don. My family has been in the flooring business for all of my life. I've laid floor myself and that is a fabulous job you did. I've never been afraid of trying new projects and looks like you are the same.
Great job!!!

One concern I have is the wear on the floor from the slide out rollers. What do you think?

marialee, that remains to be seen. I have rolled the slides in and out a couple of times and see no damage. The top surface of the laminate is very tough. This was one of my concerns from the beginning, but everything I've read says, "Don't worry, be happy".

Don,
Project looks great, was just curious why you didn't put anything between the new floor and the OSB. I had hardwoods put in my house last year and the contractor put a layer of a thick, paper like piece between the plywood floor and the hardwoods. I inquired what that was for and he stated that it kept squeaks from being heard when the two woods rub against each other. He was right, no squeaks on the new flooring.

Good question. The older style laminate required a foam or cork film under it, but many of the newer ones come with it already attached on the underside. It really makes the job a lot easier. That's what I used and you don't need anything else on the subfloor.

Don,
Great job - I'm excited about doing our floor in our 08 Berk. We're leaning more towards the Allure flooring that looks like red slate tile, but yet to buy anything. I'm curious how many square feet you purchased material for? We plan to do our bedroom also, but not the shower/bathroom - leaving it as is.
Again - great job! I've seen some professionally installed RV floors that can/'t touch your work.
Jeff

Thanks, Jeff. First, I would be careful about going with any kind of soft tile. I think it would not be up to the weight of the rollers and you would end up with depressions in the surface. As I recall, the product we ordered came 16 planks to a box and each box covers a little over 29 square feet. We ordered too much, ending up using 5 boxes. That comes out to 145 sq ft.
Good luck with your project. Hope to see some pics.

Thanks for the info - we have worried about the rollers but notice only slight indentation in the carpet so hope the Allure, with maybe another "sacrifice layer" placed on it for storage will keep it ok. For sure the carpet must go and our two dogs make such a mess after drinking, I fear any other materials will not hold up.
Once I get the carpet out, I'll study the rollers carefully and see what we need to do to protect the new floor.

Don -
Following up because I appreciated your comments, I got a few samples from Home Depot and placed them under the steel wheels of my five ton floor jack. In 10 hours, there was no sign of stress - I'm going to leave it a few days and temp cycles. If anything, I worry the Allure tile planks may be too brittle, not soft...
Again, thanks for your input - I'll keep checking.
