No Frontal Sunshades on 2016 Berkshire 38A!!
Picking up my new Berkshire 38A on March 29th. What's the deal with FR removing the screened sun shades in the front of the coach? None for the windshield, none for the passenger, none for the driver side. All three sides have the blackout shade, but no sun protection for the expensive dash vinyl, and the expensive DW. Haven't they heard of ultraviolet degradation (on the dash, not the wife)? Just saying...

P.S. The dealer was not aware and is giving me a quote to add this item at settlement.

Believe this is one of the distinguishing factors between the Berk, XL & XLT builds

No huge loss in my opinion. We will use ours when on the road sometimes but when parked the external shade works 20X better. Get them for all the front windows. I even have them for the slide windows. Works great.

I personally love this feature while driving. Allows me to tailor the amount of incoming sun/glare. Sounds like a penny wise cost saving measure.

I was looking for an "eye" shade example. You say Glen has them. Glen who?
Looked for a link to a photo of one.

I like it. I was at a campground once and saw something similar that must have been done with a lazer light from inside, because it blinked at me

The outside shade is made by Magna Shade. They are held up with magnets and I have them because ladders and me are to much trouble. I had another brand that were great but I had to get the ladder out to put them on. That wouldn't do so I got these. I can put them up in two minutes from the ground by myself. Roger the owner will put any picture you want on the shade. Put your favorite beach picture or just some really cool eyes like Nathan did. They make shades for all the windows and have tire covers also.

When I get a sunshade, this will be the brand. Just not at the top of my priority list right now.

Living in State College you would be better served with a snow thrower in front rather than sunshades.

They are expensive! Just as we were talking about this I wondered what real results I was getting.
We are in full sun. It's humid and 87 degrees out and has been warm all day. I have all the shades on and also have side window awnings. With both AC running ducting the Moho was at 75 degrees. With both set for drop down after an hour it is 72.
Both of my AC's are 13500 BTU's I would say that's pretty good. I'm not ambitious enough to remove the shades to really see what difference they make.

Thanks for the Link to Magne Shade, it was what I'm looking for. Short of getting the big Packer "G" on the front, they may balk from copy right laws, I would go with the Cocktail Drink Shade, I think I could even get my DW on board with that

Our FR3 30DS didn't come with day(sun) shades. After camping with my brother, who was in a Tiffin, in 90 deg full sun, who had the day shades... We had to have them. We have already installed the front, driver, and passenger shades. They are awesome. Shades for all of the remaining windows should be shipped to us any day. We couldn't be happier. We got them from Ron at www.shade-man.com.

I have a 38A on order and FR is sending the hardware for the day shade to my RV dealer and they will install it at their shop. There is a slot behind the night shade for that day shade. My guess is that they are getting everything they need from the XL and XLT.

The dealer says it will be $2K to fix the no sunshades on the front window areas. I guess I was just surprised that my 2015 (entry level) Sportscoach 361BH had all of the sunshades. After one steak It is hard to savor the beans. I just assumed my more expensive and truly awesome Berkshire 38A would have the same functional equipment. I called MCD in Texas and they could also do the upgrade, maybe in a year for my birthday present to myself. Thanks for the replies. Bobbyj

My dealer is installing the shade for $900.00. It will be installed before delivery to me.

Man, not talking authoritatively here, but 2k sounds like a heck of a lot.

I went on line (MCD Shades) and the shade is $780 for the front. The two sides come in at at $180 each or $360, so that puts us at $1140 for the materials. They have to run wire in the dash and find room on the dash for a new switch, as the 38A has only one switch for the front power shade. That leaves around $800 for the labor and switch. Anyway, it was a ballpark, but yes, I am sure I can save some by shopping around. Thanks again. BobbyJ
