Odor (not sewer-related)

2020 34QS. We have had an odor for the past year or so that we can't seem to pinpoint. Thorough cleaning does not get rid of it and it's so strong that it permeates clothing, bedding, etc.
The odor is hard to describe, not musty, kind of chemical-y.
We wonder if it's coming from the upholstery or the finish on the cabinets or the material that covers the ceiling (???)
Anybody else have this issue?

I keep my air conditioner ON even while in storage
set at 85 , trailer does not get super hot and stinky
Florida heat/humidity has got to be the worst!

My theory is the cooler it is the longer it will last..
just a theory

Plus seen tooooooo many posts ...
my a/c or fridge wont work it's been in storage for x months.

for me it's ..... Use it or lose it!
ac/fridge has been on for 2 years full time, they work perfect and have not mysteriously worn out from overuse!

What kind of chemical smell? like a fuel or solvent aroma? or more like a cleaner degreaser smell? Hydraulic oil or fluid smell? coolant smell...Need a bit more info to go off of. Maybe something was spilled, and the smell is leaching out into the fabric or the wood. I would check all the cabinets and storage areas both interior and exterior to see if the smell is stronger from a specific area. I had that problem with a spilled bottle of Diesel Kleen and couldn't find the smell until I checked the front compartment in the fifth wheel under the king pin box. The bottle got crushed and leaked. The aroma permeated up through the bedroom area in the fifth wheel and was quite pungent.

We keep the ac set at 78 and even bought a dehumidifier thinking it was a moisture issue.
I don’t believe it’s from a spill of any kind. It doesn’t smell like petroleum or anything caustic. It’s hard to describe.
Everything in the coach ends up smelling, clothes in the rear closet and drawers, packaging in the slide out pantry, bedding, towels.

You might want to buy an OZONE generator available on Amazon. They remove all types of organic odors. They work well, I bought one to remove a mold odor in my truck and cat odor in one of our bedrooms. In a matter of hours the odor was gone. It is what hotels use to remove odor, especially smoking and pet odors.

Does the odor go away when traveling and using the coach and come back when the coach sits for a length of time? I’ve smelled something like this in our coach. I thought it was coming from the styrofoam insulation in the ceiling/ductwork. Venting seems to help. New materials often gas out after installation. We will try the ozone generator. It’s not unpleasant but clothing stored in the coach require airing out or tumble drying.

Kim/Trapp - don't run it too long.

Potential health risks: Prolonged exposure to ozone concentrations can be harmful to humans, even at low levels. The EPA study mentioned in the search results shows that some ozone generators can produce concentrations of 0.20-0.30 ppm, which may not be safe for prolonged exposure.

Environmental factors: Ozone output can be affected by environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and air circulation. Running the generator for too long may lead to reduced ozone output, making it less effective.

Ozone plate degradation: The ozone plate, a critical component of the generator, has a limited lifespan. Running the generator excessively can cause premature degradation, reducing its effectiveness and potentially leading to maintenance issues.

Safety considerations: Running an ozone generator for too long can increase the risk of accidents, such as fires or explosions, due to overheating or electrical malfunctions.

Ineffective treatment: Prolonged ozone exposure may not provide additional benefits for decontamination or odor removal. In fact, some users reported that running the generator for extended periods didn’t produce better results.

Thanks,What about the Ozone generated by electric cars? Something I’m considering lately. Considering the interest in the smell in the coach I may get an air quality test. As a cancer survivor I’m more aware of my environment. I’ll get back to this post when air quality study is complete.
