On the road again...

Boy it feels good to be back on the road! Though the first couple hours are always a bit stressful, especially when leaving at night, and pulling a toad.

But we're off! Maybe we'll see some of you on the road!

Won't be on the road until after Christmas but what is your ultimate destination?

Hey tmmar....I see you are from Nassau Cty. ... me too originally. What have you found to be the best way to get on & off the island when heading out for points west/south that is RV compatible and not too hairy? Would like to visit some relatives but am a bit intimidated.

Cam,
The only way that I can get off the Island is to take the LIE (495) to the Clearview to the Throgs Neck Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expwy to the George Washington Bridge. Then to the NJ Turnpike if heading south or to Rte 80 if heading west. Coming back to the Island, I just reverse the route. Living on Long Island, you are limited to the roads that can handle a big rig. Can not go any Parkway because of the low over passes.
Tom

Thanks Tom...my usual route is over the Verazzano to the Belt and I knew that was a non-starter.
Will use your way.

When you try to get off Long Island and U take the clear view to the (CBX) to the G.W bridge how do you get under the. Apartments with propane on the motor home . Do you get off on 178 street and take the city streets back to the G. W. Only a few blocks but not a nice place to drive with a car in tow

We will never leave at night. Leave early morning and stop by 5PM on first night and afterwards stop at 3 PM every other day till we arrive at our destination. Not in a hurry as we are retired. We meander to our destination. Remember, it is the travel and not the destination that make the trip. Relax, take your time, enjoy the trip and see the view.

Blazer,
No problem going under the apartments with propane and no need to get off on city streets. Just make sure you take the upper level of the bridge. They let you cross the bridge and go under the apartments with truck traffic.

There are some great wineries here now. Most of the avocados are in Fallbrook a few citrus groves a lot of grapevines now. I think there are like 50 wineries with more being built.

His ranch is in Westlake Village, California near Thousand Oaks. I think he had a place at one point in Fallbrook.

He bought water from a company who then went to a neighboring area and loaded their truck with water from a hydrant. Tom Sellick paid the fine though.
