Power loss

Experiencing significant power loss when I’m going uphill....

Talked to a couple of diesel mechanics who both asked “when’s the last time I had fuel filter replaced?”

Actually been a couple of years I’m ashamed to say...

Have one coming by Thursday AM to read codes and replace filters ....

Fingers crossed that will resolve things.....

Cool

I had a Ram diesel, 14 years old, about 120,000 miles before I sold it. It still had the original fuel filter. I am a charter member of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" fraternity.

Hope your problem is relatively easy and inexpensive to solve.

diesel engines live or die by how clean the fuel is and the amount available. A rig that sits most of its life can have real problems with fuel filter clogging from the stuff growing inside the fuel tank. Fuel filters are cheap insurance when you consider the cost of replacing injectors and such. JMHO

Motorhome definitely hasn’t been sitting....

Just returned from Maine to Texas a couple of weeks ago (2,483 miles) and it ran like a champ!!!!

This “loss of significant power” issue came about yesterday on a 130 mile trip....

Power loss

Earnest,
What engine are we talking about.
It might be possible for the boost pressure to have gone away. Do you have a boost gauge?
On our 2020 40E the boost is selected on the digital gauges. (Thank you Daimler)

My boost gauge goes from 0 - 50...

When climbing hills it usually goes to between 25-50; sometimes it might hit 50 briefly then drop to below 25 once climb is finished...

I think we might have found the reason my coach was losing power - now that’s a REALLY dirty fuel filter!!!!!

Glad you found it!

That’s really dirty and totally different than my fuel filters.
