Yep, the HW50C should be everything you need. I've said it before, but it will protect against everything except a lightning strike. NOTHING (maybe God??) will save you from a lightning strike.

Like Boo, I also mounted my Progressive surge protector in the compartment with the transfer switch.
I did not shorten or cut the shore power line. I coiled it up with the idea if the Progressive craps out, I can bypass it and hook up the original wiring. - Hank

So obviously to connect these you'd be sure the shore power is unplugged. Now how bout the coach batteries ? Do they all have to be disconnected ? Guess it would be a good time to clean battery box, paint bottom, and put down the mats.

Only shore power and generator off. Batteries have nothing to do with it. I cut shore power cable about 2 feet knowing I had another spare cable 50 foot dressed the wires and hooked up the Progressive unit.

So Wayne you have 50' of shore cable coming wired into coach or is it an extension cord set up to extend what you have from coach.
How much does one usually need at a camp ground ? Just asking cuse of being a newbie at this.

Joe I started with 50 ft I guess but I never measured it. I have another 50 foot extension cord just in case I need it.
To answer your question it depends normally what came with the coach is enough but it depends how you park it. 99% of the time the power bay is close to the power pole and 50 or 48 feet will reach. I have one location I pull in front first so what came with the coach is short so I add the extension and everything is good.

So... no thoughts pro or con about putting the protection device after the transfer switch? Seems you'd like to monitor voltage, current, and frequency when running on the genset too.

The transfer switch operates using 120 VAC. Since the purpose of the Surge Protector is to protect against defective inputs like open neutral, low voltage, etc., the protector should be the first in line to due its job.

I thought I read an earlier post that claims the gen set has its own protection. I would think you want to monitor power outside the coach beyond your control.

Must be in front of the transfer switch on the shore power side. Gen has protection built in.

So... at least there appears to be a consensus. :-) Seems it would be useful to be able to monitor and control the load on gen power - and Progressive Industries provides directions for installing it either way - but duly noted. Thanks all!

Putting the EMS first, then also protects the transfer switch itself.
Don't know about HIGH RISK, but my preference was to protect the transfer switch too. I figure the gen set will be pretty "clean" 99.99999% of the time.

No room in my coach to install before the transfer switch. Also a problem with where the display could be installed. I unhooked supply line into breaker panel, then ran "jumper" from protector to panel. My thought was any gen issue is still caught.
