Purchasing a Berkshire

Hello,

We are considering purchasing a new 2015 Berkshire 38A. The "manufacturer's lowest advertised price" is about $169,000. In your experience, how often will dealers negotiate down from the manufacturer's lowest advertised price and about how much will they cut from the price?

Thank you for any information you can provide!

Depends on the dealer. If it is mhsrv in Texas they don't negotiate down much if at all. They may throw in some Visa gift cards though.
Does sound like a pretty good price though if it is equipped with washer dryer and satellite.

We bought from Motorhome Specialist in Texas but we were able to get a 2016 38A for 4K less than local dealer wanted for 2015 38A. And we ordered ours so we got the exact color we wanted. Our salesman said if we sent him a buyer he would take another 500.00 off the price. It's worth a try. PM me if you need more info.

Since you're up north, I would check with total value RV in Indiana. They will negotiate.

When we bought our rig, we shopped all over the US including Lazy Days and Motor Home Specialists. RVOne beat them all by thousands. I believe all their dealerships, with the possible exception of Tampa RV, handle Berkshires. Our purchase was with their Buffalo RV location.

X2. Best price I could find and low miles since the coaches are built there. I have dealt with Chad and he was always back with me right away before and after the sale.

It totally depends on how hungry to dealer is.... how willing you are to travel and how patients to wait.

I bought mine at less than 60 percent of msrp.

I am looking at a new 2016 38A with an msrp of 256,000 and an initial asking price of 181,200. This seems to be the popular starting point for most dealers for this model that i have seen on internet shopping. I have yet to start negotiating but my understanding is to always negotiate hard for 30 to 40 % off msrp , which results in a range of 153,400 to 179,400 on an msrp of 256,000.

We ended up with about 32% off when we bought ours from Motorhome Specialists in Texas. Total Value RV was also offering a pretty good price, but the TX dealership was closer to us so we went with them. When we arrived to pick up our new MH they gave us a loaner car to use for the 4 days we were there which I thought was really nice. We used their car to drive to Dallas and go to the JFK Museum.
We camped there for 4 days under a covered parking spot while we did our PDI. We were very pleased with our experience with the dealership.

X2 I was really impressed with Total Value! Give Dave a call and ask him for his best price. Since they are all but 6 miles from the Berk Factory, the Berk Factory reps are always over there hanging out. A great bunch of guys!

Edit: Saw last post, Like Rick's dealer (Motorhome Specialists) Total Value has 6 paved full hookup slots outside the dealership. If you buy from them you get free coming at the dealership whenever you are in Elkhart. Being they are right off I80, this is a pretty sweet deal!

Correct. The "going rate" when you shop around in 32-35% If it is year end (i.e. you don't mind buying a 2015 38A you could get 40% maybe more if they are desperate to move the rig.

You will have to do a lot of shopping around to see who has 2015s in stock with the colors/interior you like.

We bought ours at MHSRV and we're very pleased with the price, they start off up to 35% off msrp. The only thing I would suggest, even though it came with satellite installed, I wish I would have had them upgrade into the purchase price at the dealer, because the King Dome that came with it is not adequate...so keep that in mind.

As far as Lazy Days, I was shocked at their prices when we were looking! 7-8 thousand above other dealers! When I questioned their price I was told "we are the largest RV dealer in the country so we can get the higher price".
I don't know about you, but I didn't want that kind of attitude while buying something that cost that much!
Just my opinion.

Well if that is true, then they should have one of the lowest prices because they would make just as much profit because of the volume they sell.

Yes the volume of buying and selling is how MHSRV keeps their prices low, without all the attitude! I think some companies are used to being the only dogs on the porch when it comes to RV sales. Times they are a-changing, these companies better wake up! The RV industry is growing bigger every year, and RV buyers are getting smarter every year!

Unfortunately, I have had a similar experience with Lazy Daye RV

Completely different experience with Total RV in Elkhart (all of 6 mi from the factory)

Also Hood RV in Decatur AL will be getting into MH in 2016, and they are a GREAT bunch of folks!

The other reason MHSRV can sell lower is that the family owns the entire 165 acre property outright.

We shopped around a lot. Landed on MHSRV in TX. We got a 2014 390BH 60 loaded down. Winnegard in motion satellite, upgraded AC units.
We were living in California at the time. I negotiated for them to pay for my flight from San Fran to Dallas, they also paid for a rental car. I feel like we got a decent deal at $169k, that also included the 5 year transferable extended warranty.
We had a great experience during the purchase and overview of the coach staying there 2 days.

Now the caveat: test every system multiple times, try to get everything repaired while you're there. We had to leave after 2 days. Our salesman Mitch was very nice and owed us several items to be replaced. Well getting those items took a full year multiple calls to the dealer. Finally I had to go to the GM who took care of the issues immediately. Our situation may have been situational just take your time and if anything is left not completed
