rear view camera images are dark
I have a 2020 Berkshire 39A with a question concerning the rear view camera. It seems like the images are not very clear and are very dark on the monitor, even in daylight. Has anyone experienced similar problems? I may have to change out the camera, but I am not sure what to replace it with. My last 2 motor homes did not have this issue, I am not sure how to best correct the problem. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have you checked the settings for the monitor? usually there are brightness and contrast settings on the monitors settings to adjust picture quality.

Hi Gus,
The dealer tried to make some adjustments with little improvement. I will pull out the manual today and make another attempt to adjust settings. Thanks,
Terry

Follow up questions...
You’re mentioning how dark your images are from the rear camera.
Do you have side mounted cameras? How do they look?

The side camera images are just fine, clear and bright. I did try to make some adjustments on the monitor without success. I think I will try to call Mobile Vision on Monday. The rear camera is a Mobile Vision Model C122.

Ok then.
Your problem is with the rear camera itself, not the monitor.
Are you still in the warranty period for a replacement?

Yes, still under warranty. However the selling dealer is 16 hours away. I will try to contact them, but the camera is working, just not well. I am wondering if this is the best this camera will do, it may not be defective, just a lesser quality than what I had in my previous motor home.

There is an upgrade camera available from the company that makes the monitor. I can’t remember the model number but when I talked to the rep they even gave me credit for the original camera. The upgraded camera made a world of difference in image quality. It was a simple plug in replacement when you pull the old camera off and the cable has a plug. Sorry I don’t have any of the model numbers or contact info.

One thing to watch for that I just discovered on my back up camera is an "auto dim" feature. Be sure that it is turned off and then re-adjust the brightness and contrast. Don't know if your camera/monitor setup is similar, but thought I would offer an idea that worked for me. My image was also very dark until turning off the auto dim feature.

We have a 2020 45A and the image from the rear camera is excellent. I would definitely contact the manufacturer (or reach out to Forest River) and have them send you a replacement.

To change the Brightness of the screen try the following;
Press home> settings> device> Brightness. Once you set it, hit ok to confirm and lock it in.

I have attached 2 pictures, one from the side camera and one from the rear camera. You should be able to see the difference.

rear view camera images are dark
That is why I switched to the C128 camera upon recommendation from the manufacturer. The. C122 camera is junk. The image quality is so much better with the C128 camera. I played with every setting on the monitor (brightness, contrast ) to no avail with the original C122 camera and in frustration contacted the company and paid the up charge to get the upgraded camera

Ok, Thanks for the upgrade suggestion. Did you deal direct with Magnadyne for the upgrade camera? Did you do the install your self?

I purchased the new camera directly from Magnadyne. Complained about the image quality and the offered a substantial discount on the C128 camera.
Did the install myself. Real easy, a few screw removal, pull the cable out from the body of the motorhome and disconnect the camera from the plug and the just plug in the new camera. You might have to adjust the angle to get your desired view

There is merit in sticking with the Magnadyne upgrade rather than switching brands.
I found that Magnadyne uses non-standard pin configurations for the side cameras, and they may do the same for the rear. Thus, another brand of rear camera may require re-wiring the pins.
