I've been debating about getting a Dish receiver for our TT. My BIL gave us a Wineguard Carryout antenna.
But with the Dish Anywhere app and our smart tvs, we can use our smartphones to stream everything on our home DVR and record shows.
So I don't know if it's worth buying the Dish receiver and using the Wineguard Carryout antenna.

It's not.... as long as you have cell service.

Yea, we usually have good cell service and an unlimited data plan.
The occasional times that we don't, we just watch OTA shows or watch DVDs.

Better late than never is what they say but I may as well throw in my two cents worth. Our 2016 38A came with a Direct TV antenna on top but we have DISH at home so we had to swap out that one out. BUT it took us three years to finally watch satellite TV in it! When we were in Albuquerque, NM for the balloon festival our 5th tech guy finally nailed the problem. MY significant other was so thrilled that she doubled the tip. But it wasn't until I had DISH come in for an upgrade that I realized that this one has been missing out. Our receivers are all outdated as well as our remotes. Now DISH has what they call a HOPPER for a receiver that can also record shows for you. PLUS our remotes are outdated! The new remotes are half the length plus when you press any button they light up and are easy to read in the dark! I no longer have to turn on a light to change channels! We took it one step further too and bought the WiFi boosters to boot. Makes it super nice because now we can be anywhere in or around our house and have a strong signal on our phones and our PC's are really fast.

In today's world of ever changing technology, things get outdated quickly. The hopper debuted in 2012 so it's not even new technology.

Often times a call every year or so to whatever provider you have, will result in upgrades. More often than not, at no charge.

Glad you finally got something you enjoy.

The Hopper 3 is a recent updated DVR receiver.
It's way better than the previous Hopper.
That's what it sounds like Bud has now.

OK.
The OP didn't say Hopper 3 and the original Hopper was a DVR so I came to a different conclusion.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Hopper 3, since he talked about the smaller remotes that light up.
We upgraded from the old Hopper to the Hopper 3 and have the same remotes.

Doesn't the remote that comes with the hopper 3 also utilize voice commands?
