Roof ladder on or off
What do most users do, leave the ladder attached to the rear or store it?

off and stored hanging from the frame rails in lower compartment. (kind of like a shelf. Pulled up tight with a ratchet strap). Another of the Berkshire Owners uses a telescoping ladder that he bought on Amazon.

I also carry a telescoping ladder instead. It folds up and actually takes up less room and easier to move around the basement. It’s also much better built and I don’t have to worry about how well it’s anchored-which my specific coach it wasn’t except screws thru the fiberglass and they were always loose.

Doesn't it kind of depend on if it's permanently attached or not ?

I have always had mine on. I find it convenient to get on the roof. But in our crazy political climate it is coming off to be stored in basement. One never knows where a protest may pop up. The last thing I want is someone hanging on the ladder or getting on the roof.
I really hate 2020

To those who use a telescope ladder, what brand do you have? I weigh 240 pounds and am looking for safe access to the roof. Also since my unit did not come with a ladder, does anyone know if the roof is "walk-able"?
Thanks,
Terry

I keep mine on so it doesn't take up space below in the storage bay. If someone climbs my ladder they will have trouble finding their way down with a stream of bear spray in their face

The roof is walkable (at our age more like scoot-able.....) Amazon has several telescoping ladders available at different price ranges and different weight limits. Here is info on a Berkshire owner's blog: https://dragonship.blog/ with info on many different topics.

Skyline that opens
I’m thinking of converting the skylight in the shower to one that opens to allow access to the roof from inside the coach. 40E.

If you do convert it to go up thru the skylight, I’d dearly love to have you video and share it with us,

I keep mine off and store a 7 foot collapsible step ladder in the basement. It closes to about 3”x 5”x 84”. I don’t like the look off it and it is hard to wash around.

Off. We use a telescoping ladder. Not much else for mounting the roof a 12' tall toy hauler. It works well. Very smooth to operate. It drops into a size of about. 34" tall x 22" wide x 2.5" thick. I went with 14'. But, there's an art to it.
I'm not certain that these round tube telescope will be suitable for a 240 lb soul. Most RV ladders tall enough to safely access the roof are not up to 240. Most round tube telescoping ladders that sell for less than $200 have very low weight ratings. And all of them are are comparatively heavy. Mine's about 30 lbs.
The cheapies are OK for infrequent RV use. Bought mine for $69 bucks. It actually works great for my 150 lb bum.
These round tube ladders will pinch finger webs big-time. Follow the instructions when using....both extend and collapse.
Round telescope ladders are easy to store and gain good access to the tallest RV. And can be easily moved around. The commercial versions are OK with 200 plus lbs YMMV with the eBay versions--which is what I have.

On. I keep a step ladder attached to it. I was going to go telescoping route but that wouldn’t help to work on slides or canopies when open. Also convenient for washing windshield and putting satellite on the roof. (Like the flexibility of moving the dish to get a signal)
