Depending on where you're headed - that nothing for the next 22 miles sign is very misleading. Some places are much farther apart - like Midland/Odessa to El Paso or Van Horn.

Awesome. Headed to Amarillo on the 29th, then down to Waller(jelly stone), over to Galveston and then on to Biloxi. Never been to Tx, so im looking forward to it !

Longest, most grueling drive I ever made was while my son was racing. Drove from the LA/TX state line (I-20) to Albuquerque, NM (I-40). I swear it seemed we were at a 5* grade the entire time across TX. Nothing to see but tumbleweeds. Finally gave up around 4 AM, checked in to a hotel and asked for a wake up call in 3 hours.
Nope, this Mom traveling with her teenage son did not stop to sleep at a rest area, not even back then, and not even while exercising her 2A.

I will venture to say that once you reached DFW the scenery in East Texas was much better sans tumbleweeds.
Not sure where you got the 5% grade from - it's pretty flat from Abilene west to the NM/TX line on I20.

I know it's supposed to be flat, but the mile after mile after mile (and miles seem longer in TX) it "seemed" like it was a slight grade constantly.
And I was dog tired by then.

I used to live in Austin and drive to Phoenix a couple times a year. I set my cruse at 100 mph going thru west Tx. I could go for hours and never move the steering wheel more than an inch. Love Tx.

Texas - 640,000 square miles of absolute miracle. ...beautiful in its every regard. The most fascinating, wonderful, generous and majestic place on earth.

Like they say - "Texas - it's a whole different country"
Don't misunderstand we got some issues: the border issue,we have some of the highest electric rates in the country along with some of the highest home insurance rates,tornados,hail,etc.
But it's still a great state IMO.

I was in El Paso one time checking out some medical equipment to purchase. The company took me to a steak house called Edge of Texas. Best and biggest steak I ever had. Walked across the bridge to Jaurez and done some shopping in an outdoor market. Not sure I would do that today.

Haven't been to Juarez in quite some time,but I now hear it's not a good place for shopping like you said. Most people I know go to Progreso to shop.

Yes Sir, I will be one of the first to admit. ..we do have our issues. But there is still a pride in Texans that comes from deep within. ...A pride that some misinterpret as a 'Holier than Thou' attitude if you will. ...but we're just people, good people. Some even still think all of us have our own oil wells, thousands of head of cattle and our own personal jets to fly us around on our huge ranches.
A Texan eats, sleeps and breaths Texas. There is no other place on earth like it....There is no other flag, other than the US flag that is as as quickly recognized. There is still so much pride in Texans. ...we love our state.
As they say. ...most times you don't have to ask a Texan where they are from. ...If they're from Texas, they'll tell ya.
