Serpentine Belt

Anyone have a part number off hand for our Cummins ISB 6.7 (340hp) serpentine belt that we have in most of our motorhomes? Mine is a 2008 360QS for reference but I am going to assume the belts are all the same on that engine. I am away on business right now and trying to set up appointment with Cummins dealer to replace (it's coming apart) as soon as I get back but don't have a part number or engine serial number.

James sorry I can't help with the part number but one helpful thing I learned on this site was to take pictures of all the important info stickers with my phone. Then I always have all the info I need for service. With the vin number any service place could order the correct part.

Good idea Phil, with keeping the photo's on you phone. I like that idea. Unfortunately because the belt runs on it's backside as well it has worn the part number off it. I mentioned the unit serial number to one shop and they said they didn't need it and ordered a belt based on the engine model and year. I guess we'll see how that goes. I also contacted another shop who deal specifically with Cummins and they said they likely have a belt in stock. So hopefully one of these shops has what I need. Will keep you all posted on a part number once it's replaced. All this would have been easier if not out of town and I had got the engine serial number before I left!

The Cummins part number for the serpentine belt is 3974248. Just had mine
replaced after the comperssor failed and belt broke tearing out the wiring for the fan clutch. Had to be towed forty five miles to American Bus CO. in ANNAPOLIS, MD. Took four days to complete the repairs. American did a great job and kept us informed as to what was going on all the time during the repairs.We have a 2008 berkshire 390t.Bought new in 2009 so all the work was covered under warranty. Freightliner would not pay for hotel for 3 nights and did not pick up the casino losses at the new casino in Hanover,md.

Gramps,
Were your repairs covered under the 5yr/100k mile power train warranty or some other part of the warranty? What would the repairs have cost if it was not covered?

The repairs were covered under the Freightliner 3yr , I believe 50,000 mile
I do know the warranty runs out on October 16, 2012 so we just made it under the wire. I asked what the total cost of the repair was but they had yet
to total everything up at the time they told us the MH was ready to go. I than asked if they could estimate and i was told about $3000.00 not including the tow which was about $600.00. Again i have to say that American Bus did a great job.

So that would be $2400 to replace compressor and belt right? Actually what compressor? The a/c is an electric unit up front I believe and the air compressor for the motor is gear driven I think. Could be wrong but pretty sure.

Just had the belt replaced (31,000 miles) as there was only half the belt holding on. Price for belt was $35.89 and an hour labour. So less than $200 for belt and labour. Had the Haldex air dryer filter replaced as well, was shocked the price for the filter alone was $215!

I think they made up for the the cheap belt replacement on the air drier service. We own two commercial fleet repair shops and the filter cost roughly $40 - $50 dollars pending the time of the year. Here in the East many distributors run specials since fall is the time most commercial trucks service the air system.

I always carry a spare belt and fuel filters - including the plastic bowl for the Alliance (yellow) filter. Depending where you are broke down with bad fuel unless a the repair shop stocks the Alliance filter it must be purchased from a Freightliner dealer and they could be few and far between.

That's just narrow minded them not picking up the casino losses! I'd hate to breakdown in the vicinity of a casino, I don't think my funds would hold out unless I just needed a jump or something like that!: )
