Something Growing?

Winterizing this afternoon and came across this under a bunk window. Raised growth on the wood under the paper. Sliced open one of the raised bumps and looks like hard black fungus or something. Anyone see this before? They are hard as a rock. Click image for larger version

That is the glue underneath after being exposed to water. Probably coming in the window seal.

If glue, heat carefully with a hair dryer and use a wallpaper seam roller.

May want to investigate the window. Sounds like a re-seal could be in order.

I had that happen to our flagstaff fifth wheel a few years ago. The window seal had failed and water was getting in through the Windsor and into the wall. Easy fix, just takes some time to take it out, reseal and put back in.

I've had it happen on several units I've owned, all the old style flange windows. Every time it turned out that the Elkhart employee that put it in didn't care enough to do it right.

I'm having same problem in my 2015 Berkshire XL 40RB on the dinette slide (window on the end of slide). For months, I keep getting a whiff of what smells like wet cardboard. Finally figured out that when it rains and slide is open, water if pouring off my sagging slide awning directly onto the window sill and it's leaking/running down the inside wall. I have starting noticing those "bumps" on the wallpaper too! Guess we're going to have to pull the window and seal it up.

While this is not the solution to the problem, it can be an interim stop gap. Level the bus so that the water misses the problem area until you get it fixed.
