Starting an Electric HW Heater

Have a Suburban S-10 direct vent HW heater in my 2011 Berkshire. To run on electric, do you flip the small toggle switch in the HW heater compartment to on and then turn on the switch in the coach that would normally turn on the HW heater using propane?

No. You only need to turn on the switch on the heater. If you also want to use propane for faster heating you can turn on both, but it isn't necessary. You can use either, or both for faster heating.

Can you verify exactly what model you have? The label should be on the inside of the water heater seen from outside.

Typically, if you have both ways to heat the water, the switch inside the compartment is for heating by electricity. The switch inside heats it using propane. They work independently from each other. Some people use both to heat water faster, or sometimes keep the water hot if you’re having back to back showers with others on board.

if you turn on the one outside this one is for electric, Now if you want both on turn on switch inside. I'm a cheep I chose only electric and save propane.
