Thanks for the heads up information on this. I stopped at the dealer today and they checked my switch. It was okay. One less thing to worry about. However I did have one that was being recalled. They ordered a new one for me anyway. The ones in the recall are Iota brands I was told. I have a 2011 Berkshire 390 BH.

Craig, we have the IOTA and it looks like I may be getting it fixed at the factory. We are headed out there next week and they can't get it fixed before we leave at Buffalo RV. No biggie assuming we can find our way out there and back.

Ed,
Are you making a special trip to the factory just for the transfer switch? I called Matt and told him that there are no RV repair facilities near by and asked if they would send me the switch and I would have a local, licensed electrician install it and then get reimbursement from FR for the electrician fee. I think that a licened electrician would be better equipped to install the switch than some of the people who work at any local RV shop that deals mostly in sales.
Just a thought.
Tom

Tom, I'm actually headed out there for a couple of different reasons. One of which is a family get together in Sandusky, Ohio. The other reason is that I wanted to tour the Entegra factory which is in Middlebury, IN, not far from Elkhart and the FR factory. If possible I may try to make a third stop at my old alma mater of Bowling Green University in Ohio.

Saw that the replacement transfer box is a power max pmx-40050 (metal box) or pmx-40501 (plastic box) does anyone know what FR is going use as the replacement?

Skip

Also noticed other motorhome makers began IOTA transfer switch boxs last March due to the same problems, wonder why it too so long for FR to act?

cheap wire nuts were the problem on our generator connection - the plastic bits fell off allowing the wires to touch and short. I would encourage anyone checking their connections to pay particular attention to the wire nuts and replace as needed with good quality ones. The metal inner spring held the wire ends, just the plastic caps fell off.

I had my switch replaced at the factory on Friday. They said they have to replace about 1200 switches on FR products. They also told me that another Manufacture has to replace over 7000 switches on their units. So far Iota has not agreed to pay for the replacements, which are about $160 apiece (if I remember correctly).

Did FR step up and pay for the replacement?

This is a NHTSA recall so they have to pay to replace the switch.

Can you use the rig while waiting for new transfer switch box if switch box has been damaged? Won't be using generator.

The transfer switch gets power from shore power or generator, would not recommend using it. We are waiting also and not using our Berkshire until it's replaced.

Spoke to Matt at FR and they have the replacments ready to ship to your dealer so it's just making arrangements to have them installed.

Maria,

You might want to call the dealer while you are waiting to have the new switch installed, and see if you can stop by and just have them check the switch wiring to make sure they are all secured. I did this before they put my new switch in. It took about ten minutes for them to check the switch. I was then able to use my MH, with peace of mind, until they installed the new switch.

Craig,
Some of the wires in the switch box are fried. So I will just hold off untill we get the part. The dealer is also about 100 miles away. Wish they gave us gas money.. Also glad the rig didn't catch fire!! :}
