Weird Situation

When we were headed back from Camp Freightliner we kept on hearing a really bad rubbing noise that had kind of a rubber like sound to it. Come to find out that our wheel inserts were causing the noise. There is a rubber liner on the wheel inserts and part of it had come off so that when we drove it made a really severe rubbing noise. No harm to the rig, but the source of the noise was nothing other than part of that rubber seal not being there on the inserts. Replaced the seal with a insulating tape and all is well again.

Greetings Dave from across the River!

There was a piece of rubber sticking out of the insert when we left Gaffney and I just pulled it off because it looked weird. I never thought about it being something that would rub all the way home and make that kind of noise. Sadly we didn't take any pictures of the rubber hanging out of the insert (which I still want to call a hub cap, but that just me showing my age).

I had a creaking noise coming from the front of the coach and found out it was the stainless steel wheel insert that was moving slightly when the coach was in motion. Could hear it more when rolling slowly. Got some of the foam window/door insulation sold at Home Depot with the sticky back and put it between the wheel and the insert and the noise is gone. Simple solution to an annoying problem.

Yep, Tom, that is the same problem we had, or I should say have. It went away on the back wheels, but we still have it on the front. I think I'll try to take care of it myself rather than take it back to our local Freightliner repair place.
