Windshield Wiper Issue

Have a 2011 Berkshire 390QS. Early this week we had a 6 inch snowstorm. As the snow melted on the front roof of the coach, a large amount slid down the windshield & pushed the passenger side windshield wiper arm down below the glass onto the body. I removed the arm & tried to reset it in the proper position. When I tried the wipers they went all the way up & then stopped. They were trying to go back down because you see a little movement. When I grabbed the driver's side wiper arm and pulled down the arm went down & came back up but was stuck again. Now the wipers hum when turned on but no movement at all. You can also grab the arms & move them easily up & down but they will not move with the motor on. How easy is it to access the arms & motor? If you slide open the front generator can you access them from there? Or do you have to open up the dash board to access them.

On mine, which is a different year-open the generator compartment and the motor is right there. I’m pretty sure there are some threads on here that address how others have fixed theirs when they glitched. I do know the gears holding the wiper arms are very soft metal so be cautious of stripping them out.

I have a 2011 Berkshire 390RB360 and have experienced the same problem. The wiper arm bracket does not have sufficient clearance and binds on a bolt head.

The first place I took it for repair identified the problem, but their solution to bend the bracket to provide the clearance proved to be only a temporary fix.

the second place I took it for repair identified the problem and tried to bend the wiper arm back to the original position then loosen the wiper motor mount to reposition the motor assembly to provide clearance. This too proved to be only a temporary solution and the wiper froze in position again. The mechanic again tried to realign the motor mount to provide sufficient clearance. Once again only a temporary solution as the wipers again froze in position.

I found a third repair place in Mount Vernon Washington. The mechanic removed the motor assembly and identified the wiper bracket was cracked, obviously from the bending. He welded the cracked bracket, reinstalled and aligned the assembly and has fixed the problem. I have since purchased a replacement bracket to have on hand should the problem raise it's ugly head again.

Unfortunately the name of the repair shop and the mechanic are in storage with my motorhome. once I get the opportunity to get them out of storage I will let you and everyone know their names. The mechanic should be commended as he did a fantastic job.

Good Luck

George & Diana

I have had an issue with the drivers side arm moving to far in both directions. It seems to have to much play. In strong wind it almost gets pushed off the side of the windshield and the same when it comes back down towards bottom of windshield. I replaced the arm once when the spring broke. I am hoping it is not the motor itself.

In the end of the wiper arm there is a crush sleeve, If it strips you, undo the acorn nut- pull the arm off- knock out the crush sleeve and install a new one. I have gotten mine from forest river.
