12V Everchill not cooling flashing

Hi,

I have the 11cf 12V compressor fridge made by Everchill. Plugged into shore power. Freezer is at 0F which is great, and I can hear the fan and compressor spin. The fridge got down to 40F and is now back up to 55F with the temp setting on 3 and flashing. I checked the voltage at the fridge fuse and it’s steady at 13.6V.

Outside temp got up to 80 today and the trailer is exposed to direct sunlight. This is a brand new 2022 Wolf Pup Trailer. I have read that a flashing light means not enough current getting to the fridge, but i have never seen the voltage dip below 13V.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. Where are you testing the voltage at? I would recommend you test it at the compressor connections. JMHO

I’m measuring at the fridge fuse, that’s the closest I can get without pulling the fridge out.

Update, currently on a 1 week trip in BC. Temps are mid 50s to high 60s. Fridge is running on battery the entire time and everything is perfect. No flashing lights, fridge and freezer super cold. This means that this fridge in its current configuration is allergic to anything 70F or higher on the ambient temp. Next step will be to install some fans around the enclosure.

A fridge allergic to temps above 70F is not normal. It's a brand new rig under warranty and you need to get it fixed before the warranty runs out. You might want to make an appointment at your dealer now... just in case you've got to wait 2 or 3 months for an appointment.

12V Everchill flashing

So we were camping in Winchester VA this past weekend, temps in the 90s. Freezer kept the klondike bars solid but the fridge was flashing on setting 4.

Then I read the fine print and held the power button in for 10 seconds, turned it off. Then held it again to turn on. Started with setting 3 and got the solid light. let it sit for a few hours and moved it to setting 4.

Had no issues after that.

We always try to get the stuff cold before it goes in but this time we had 2 gallons of water that was ambient when it went in.

Added some cooling

Update:

I pulled the fridge out and added some ducting and active fans. I was planning on adding insulation behind the fridge as well, but noticed a thick layer was already present. While I had the fridge out, I also measured voltage at the back, it was a solid 13.2V. Running on Lithium battery.

I’m not sure yet how much the fans help since I have not been out in the heat camping with it.

If your refrigerator has a knob in the freezer section that is marked "cold" and "colder", make sure it is in the "cold" position instead of the "colder" position. I say "if" because it's my understanding that the refrigerator controls were changed between production runs.
My Magic Chef\Everchill refrigerator has the thermostat controls above the top shelf while I've seen pictures of the newer fridge that has the control on the right hand inside wall. I don't know if they both have the airflow restrictor control in the freezer section.

make sure you don't disconnect the battery and the battery is good.

the fridge will work hard on hot days and the battery keeps the power flowing at the required amps for the fridge.

I tested both settings but could not tell a difference. I have thermostats in both compartments.

My camper isn't home so I can't post pics of mine.
If your freezer section has the "cold-colder" plastic knob on the back wall, it needs to be set to the "cold" position to allow the fan to blow the maximum amount of air from the freezer section, where the evaporator coils and fan are located, to the lower refrigerator section.
A couple of tips; opening the refrigerator door shuts off the circulating fan; blocking the lower section's air flow outlet with food or beverage, located at the top of the lower section, will cause warm temperatures in the lower section. You can "fake out" the fan by holding in the light switch, turning the fan back on after a three short delay. Opening the freezer door doesn't turn the fan off.
Again, it's possible that your fridge has different controls than my 2021 fridge. Any chance you could post pics of the controls?

Here are pictures of my controls. The knob in the freezer is set to cold instead of colder. It raised the freezer temp by about 5F to 28F and raised the fridge temp by about 2F to 40F even. This is all with the fridge set to 2.

I have the same (2) fridges in 2 different TT’s,, I set the fridge to “3” and the freezer to straight vertical (halfway) and my freezers stay at about 2-5* and my fridges at about 34-38*.. these are WAYYYYY better that the propane/ 120v fridges I’ve had in the past.

Ya, my refrigerator is also the same. Mine is set on 3 with the air diverter set on "cold". Freezer temp is 0 and the lower compartment temp is 35.
The lower numerical settings (1 and 2) are less effective if the doors are opened frequently and/or the weatherstripping is allowing cold air to escape. This has been discussed in a few threads, with an infrared temp gun being used to detect cold air leakage at the bottom of the refrigerator doors.
My camper's first refrigerator was replaced under warranty by Rockwood/Forest River Electronics Inc when the compressor quit working.

My Everchill Temp control (in refrig) is set to 3 when traveling and the Freezer (Cold to Colder) blend knob is set to about 1:00 position. This keeps the refrig at 35-38 degrees and freezer at 0 degrees +/- 3 degrees (see photos)

When we are not traveling and the camper just stored at home and basically empty, I set the refrig temp to 2. I have never changed the Freezer blend knob.

AcuRite Digital Wireless Fridge and Freezer Thermometer with Alarm and Max/Min Temperature

I also have one for my home refrig since it keeps track of High and Low temps. I zero the memory before we travel so I can see if we lost power at home that allowed the Refri and Freezer temps to reach unsafe temps.
