1990 coachmen issues..

I recently just picked up a 1990 coachmen camper, bumper pull, for dirt cheap. Going threw it before I winterize to see if there is any bugs to work out.

Problems..

There was no fridge in when i bought it, so I put a new one in that runs only.off electric (outlit)

But the furance does nothing at all, and the two black and white wires that are capped off for i tested and they do not have power either. Basically the furance acts upon it doesn't have power. Thermostat only runs the furnace. Have it the camper plugged into my house and also have battery hooked up.. help!!

check the fuse panel and check the output from the inverter and ensure the battery is at full charge.

Sounds like the furnace control board is bad. Could be the thermostat. Maybe both. The cheap and easy check would be to buy a new thermostat first. Hopefully a pro will read this and be able to help you more. Other option is to use a space heater. I have a Wildcat 323RBX and 2 milk hose heaters keep it nice and toasty while we are sleeping.

I was going to get a thermostat first to try that lol. The furance acts upon like it has no power at all. Does nothing. Just a big ugle door stop. I tried jumping the wires on thermostat (putting the red/white together. Does nothing. The fridge was gone when I got the camper. So.i put a new one in that plugs into a outlit. I tested the wires where the old fridge would of wired into and there is no power to them either. Click image for larger version

I should have said check the output for the converter not inverter and see if it is producing 12V power. You could jump power directly to the 12V inputs from your battery to the furnace to test it

I don't understand how to do any of that. Would I only have one breaker box? Are the inverter and converter in the same spots? I don't know anything about this kind of electrical. You give me a motor I'll tear it down rebuild it and give it back to you better than it was from when it came off the assembly.line I don't even know the model on my camper Click image for larger version

You should have bought a Propane/110 fridge . How are you going to keep the fridge cold when the trailers not plugged in ?

Here try reading this . RV Furnace Troubleshooting Basics | DoItYourself.com

Looks pretty clean in the sideways picture

It's very clean. I wasn't going to spend several hundred for a fridge when I am only 26 years old. It's just for camping. Go to sight and plug in.

Trust me I understand the $$$ being an issue . I'm not rich either I also know when I was your age I would have done the same thing you did BUT knowing what I know now I would never get the 110v fridge .lol. My main reason is because I prefer to boondock in the woods with nobody else around including electricity and I like my ice cream hahaha

I had a similar trailer to yours when I was in my 20's as well I had a ton of good times camping in that trailer. I hope you can get your issues straightened out and get to enjoy the trailer . I dont know if your new to RVing but its hard to go back once you get spoiled .

Thanks man!! I'm 26 just got married to the women I have been with for 7 years, have 3 kids, this is my 3rd camper. Plenty of memories to get made yet! Yeah the only down side on the fridge is when I go hunting there always isn't going to be an electric outlit

FYI - you most likely have a 'converter' to convert 120 volt AC to 12 volt DC.
It is extremely unlikely that you have an 'inverter' which would be used to change 12 volt D.C. to 120 volt AC.
