50Amp/30Amp

I don't think I'll need to but........

have TT with 50 Amp service but may need more than the 30' cord length for an upcoming trip. Will it be safe to use a 30AMP cord(from old TT) plugged into 30A at pedestal then dogboned to my 50Amp cord into TT I know I'll only have roughly half the power and will need to manage electric usage

Thanks for any help

No problem. I carry a 30 amp cord just in case I need the extra length as cheaper than 50 amp cord. Just remember you are dropping to 30 amp hook up so if you have two ac can only run one. Also if you are using the elec side of water heater this also takes away from what you can run. Later RJD

Actually you will have less than a third of the capability with 30 amp as opposed to 50 amp. (It's 30 amp/3600 watts as opposed to split phase 50 amp/12000 watts).

A split phase 50 amp is capable of providing 100 amps total or 50 amps per leg (there are two legs)....whereas a 30 amp only has one leg for a total of 30 amps.

I ran my 5th wheel all weekend on 50/30 amp adapter. I believe 50 amp is really only needed if you run 2 a/c's. We only have 1 a/c. We used our trailer no different than any other time.
