Add house thermostat to roof AC

How do I add a house thermostat to roof AC?
I have an old-style bi-metal thermostat I want to use instead of the AC's temp sensor. I moved the knobs/controls to the wall but that took the temp sensor out of the airflow and to the wall. It still works but not as good, but that is not the question...
Is there a way to wire it in place of the temp sensor or do I wire new thermostat to turn on/off the compressor?

Rv thermostats are dc. Home units are typically low voltage ac. So not easy.

Newer rv thermostats are digital. Another complication.

I said old. It will work on DC.
I have a t-stat, looking for wiring help on Coleman only.
