Add or Replace heater with catalytic heater?

My heater/furnace runs down the battery too quickly without shore power. It also uses a lot of propane. I want to install a catalytic heater in my popup slide in camper and want to hook it up to my main propane bottle. Is it better to replace my existing furnace or somehow run a connection to the catalytic heater as a backup. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Camper is a Palomino SS1280.

I would suggest you not remove the factory furnace.
At resale, someone may not be as eager to deal with a catalytic heater as you are.
Also, having a back up (whether it be the furnace or the catalytic) is always better than having just one. With that said, my dad had a slide in truck camper he added a catalytic heater to and it would roast you out!

Read the "Warning Label" on ANY Propane Heater" that is a Small area your dealing with! Some Never "Wake Up" from using these! Youroo!!
