Ariston Splendide Dryer Quick Fix
My dryer stopped putting out heat. I figured out that my high temp cutout had tripped. I tested my thermostat switch for continuity and found it clicks on and off and functions correctly. I checked heater elements for continuity and all were ok. Only the high temp cutout switch had no continuity.
So I ordered a thermostat kit from Westland Sales in Clackamas Oregon as there are no Canadian dealers. (Not even where I bought my fifth wheel). I received it very quickly in just three days to my remote island location so great service from them. However this set of switches wasn't cheap. After price, shipping, "brokerage fees" , and exchange rate they came in at about $150 cdn. I'm sure in the states it's only be $60 usd or so incl shipping.
Then I stupidly "tested" the part thinking it would pop up and reset itself. Nope. These are a one time use piece. The thermostat switch (with the coloured dot) do reset themselves and pop up again. The high temp cut out switch (with the silver dot) does not.
I phoned Westland and spoke to a service tech and he explained a way to do a very slight nod to the switch to make it resettable. Between the electric terminal connections is a small dimple. Using a 3/32" drill and just twisting it by finger, I drilled through the casing. Once I had the hole, I flipped the drill bit over and using the blunt end I was able to push in and click the button back up and reset the switch. If it needs to be reset again in the future a paper clip will work.

I hope I've saved somebody a few bucks today.
