built in Antenna

We have tried several times to use the amplified antenna, I assumed it would be better than the store bought units. But we can not even get one channel out of it? hook the TV up and push the micro button and the light comes on, turn on tv and search for stations and nothing... un plug cable hook up walmart antenna and scan for stations and we get about 7... any thoughts?

Know this is going to sound basic, but have you
1. Checked all the cable connections including up on the roof at the antenna. You could also pull off the cover of the of the switch and check those three connections.
2. Make sure your antenna is up if you have a Wineguard, if you have a King Jack this is not a concern.
3. Make sure your tv is set to over the air before doing a channel scan, it is possible to get a few channels when set to cable as you have posted.

If these are ok you may have a bad cable, incorrectly connected cables, bad power booster, or antenna.

Can you rotate your antenna? In your tv menu under setup there could be a signal strength meter you can monitor as you rotate the antenna to get the strongest signal. this is just a 26RR toy hauler so i dont think i can rotate it or any of that... i have not been on the roof yet but I will check that. I thought before i did that i would ask here to see if there was something i was missing.

It's one of these things listed. I can catch local channels with the antenna not even cranked up {Wineguard}.

Wingman antenna add-on really helped my reception... you probably are able to rotate the antenna toy hauler or not and unless you are very close to a transmitter the antenna is highly directional so rotation of the antenna is almost mandatory.

Ok... I think I feel really dumb now... the hole next to the wire is for rotation? I thought it was for some sort of hanging tv mount

the first pic is of the handle to make the antenna go up and down for travel, and the outer ring is for rotating the directional antenna for best reception... this of course is on the inside of the trailer on the ceiling...

second pic is close up of two connections for the inside to the TV... the top plug comes from the roof mounted antenna to the TV and the AUX comes from a side mounted antenna plug for satellite or cable connections to the TV... little green LED lite between the cables shows that the amp for the antenna is on

I would be surprised if you did not have something similar...

Our 2015 Grey Wolf had the same problem. I took it back to camping world in Nashville Tn. They said it worked down there. We traded trailers and got the exact same antenna on the next trailer and it works fine. I had checked wiring in all possible configurations and never got the grey wolf to work on the oem antenna. I bought an amazon small motorized home antenna before we traded trailers and stuck it on a 3 piece pole from the ground setting it up only when camping. I still use the amazon one since it picks up a bit over 100 miles and the oem antenna is good for about 30 miles or so.

I would remove the plate on the middle one with the coax and start there. Make sure the connection is tight. Figure out where it goes from there. Gotta have an open connection. Walmart antenna shouldn't work better than the RV.

That 'hole' is a 12v outlet. (similar to the cigarette lighter in an auto)
DO NOT stick any kind of TV mount in there unless you want to see a shower of sparks!

really? oh man... I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff and they need to lable that mess... I had my finger (really not trying to be funny or gross lol ) all up in there looking to see how you could attach something.

this is my first time in a camper let alone owning one. i have had it since last year and used it about 5 times now I think, and each time i learn something new. I did not have the manuals or the dealer to walk me through it to show me things and explain things. After my father passed I picked it up and with a promise to use it, i have been doing just that, learning the hard way as I go.

but good to know that it is a DC outlet in case someone needs one for something.

i was thinking it was a ceiling pole mount for a tv... then I figured it would have to be a small light TV because that ceiling did not seem well anchored... i had not planned on using it. But i have these type mounts in my office at work, so i am not completely crazy.

the connector below the 12V outlet probably continues thru the outside skin of the trailer and terminates outside on the side somewhere... would be used to attach cable TV or satellite TV antenna wire from outside to your TV receiver... or an external antenna that you supply

there may be a place near there, probably above those plugs to attach a wall mount TV hanger for a 21 to 24 incher

The crank (if you have one) will be on the ceiling directly under wherever the antenna is mounted. Might not be anywhere near where the TV is.

Best bet is to climb up a ladder and look at the roof. A picture of what you have up there that's antenna like will let everyone here know what you have for sure, then they can help diagnosis further based on that.

it is the flying saucer looking one... so i will assume it is uni directional and wont have a crank. While i am camping this weekend I will goof off a bit and do some wire chasing and see if anything is not connected.
