Many Chinese made USB chargers do not put out their full rated charge output. I have several in my camper that claim 2.1 amps but can't even keep my phone topped off when I'm streaming music to my bluetooth entertainment system.

We invert out and then use our factory phone chargers to get a real charge on them. Not really concerned about efficiency since it uses very little of our total battery capacity.

I'm sure there are decent 12 volt to 5 volt USV chargers out there but I have yet to find one.

12 Outlet

I was astounded when I realized our houseboat and ROO didn't come with a 12v outlet. It was one of the first mods I made. With that and 150 watt solar panel, and 2 batteries, you can charge anything. On our houseboat, I installed one of these for multiple charge capability.

That said, the battery pack charger/compressor is something I carry on every trip. It jumps a car or truck faster than jumper cables, and will top off a tire to get you to the nearest tire shop, or fill your spare up to spec. after a flat. Like most small, cheap compressors, it won't pump a flat tire to 80 psi without overheating and burning up. It helps to have it plugged in with the engine running while using the compressor. On a hot day, they'll burn out in about 5 minutes of high pressure work.

I would avoid the very inexpensive cig lighter plug in adapters ( see Photo) as they use very cheap components and generate significant RF noise that will interfere with your radio and tv reception. If you find a good one that works and is not noisy please followup so others can have that info.

We just use powerbank battery packs. I use the RAVPower ones.

I like it because then you aren't corded to the camper and you can take the phone with you outside or where ever and still be charging it. Also charges pretty fast.

This is the oneI use. I have a few of them.

I believe there are newer models of the this one now that Amazon sells with great reviews as well.

Be aware that many of these plugin chargers do have a standby current which are fine for a car that you drive weekly but if left in an RV for months without the battery disconnected will drain your battery.

I got a couple tylt inductive chargers (same as we use at home). The wall wart is 12v, so I cut the wart off and wired it into the camper's battery. No extra batteries to have, lose, charge, etc. I'll upgrade my campers batteries till I have enough juice (actually, I'm easily there with a couple hundred amp hours. Phones charging is nothing compared to the furnace running overnight).
