Dash cam purchase

Dash cam owners - based on your experience can you suggest a dependable dash cam to purchase? Been all over the web and read many negative reviews from owners that their unit shows it is recording and it really isn't, has to have constant resets, dies in a few months and on and on. If the unit doesn't work properly, it is useless and a waste of money.

Your experience and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dash cam purchase

Rove R2- 4K Dash Cam Built in... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074JT3698...p_mob_ap_share

Have one in each of our vehicles.

Work well and have had no issues with any of the three we have.

Make sure you look at the recommended brand of card as well. They know some cards have issues in their dash cam. We purchased the recommended brand for them all and no issues.

x3 for the Rove R2-4K. I've got mine hardwired and have no issues. Low light recording could be better.

I have both a ZEdge Z3D front and rear camera combo in one vehicle and a Rexing V1 in another. Both have great picture, wide angles and great night quality. The Rexing has built in wifi so you can view recordings from a device without pulling the card but the wifi resets each time it powers off, so a bit annoying. The ZEdge has a nicer form factor and has built in GPS but you have to pull the card to view anything

Add my name to the endorsements of the Rove. The WiFi feature is great and picture quality is awesome. If you get one without GPS and change your mind then the feature can be added just by changing the power cord.

At some point during every day you suddenly realize nothing else productive is going to happen the rest of that day. For me, that usually occurs around 9 am.

We've got two of the VIOFO A129 Pro 4K Dash Cam 3840x2160P Ultra HD 4K Dash Camera and love them. Easy to use and excellent videos.

Thanks to all that replied about their suggestion for a dash cam. One question, which may not apply to your situation, but do any of the makes noted allow the cam to be in a "resting" mode and will come to life if hit, bumped and not run the chassis dead parked for 2 weeks?

I got my catalytic converter stolen last night. Not sure if a dash cam would have helped, but if so, would it draw down the battery much? Thanks.

Not sure about the dash cam, but would you share the details about where your MH was parked when your catastrophic converter got swiped?

Can't speak for all but I just installed my new Rove R2 4k dash cam. According to manual if you install it with the Rove 3-wire hardwire kit it goes into standby when engine is off and will wake when vehicle is disturbed. Like a lot of aftermarket car alarms. Their 3-wire kit feeds power from ignition when engine on and the standby is a very low current draw from battery conjection when key is off. Much like the memory power tour radio uses to keep channels set..

I have BlackVues permanently mounted in four vehicles. I also have a Vantrue for temporary use in rental vehicles. Both work well.

Both will drain the vehicles battery in 3-7 days if wired or plugged into a hot circuit. For my wife who drives her vehicle everyday, this is not a problem because she recharges her battery. For my college students this becomes a problem because they do not drive enough to recharge the battery. Blackvue makes a dedicated standby battery, but it would need to be recharged every couple of days.

Blackvue does a better job of telling you there was an “Event” while the car was parked. When you start the vehicle, an audio alert says there was an “Event” while parked. Blackvue also retains “Events” in the memory separate from the normal recordings. Normal recodings get written over once the card is full. “Events” are retained until the user deletes them. The Vantrue does not do this that I am aware of, which is fine because I just check the vehicle every morning when I leave the hotel.

Blackvue also has a great wireless app to download video and a link to upload video via the internet. I can even watch my daughter’s camera live while she is driving to college via the internet.

You will capture odd things. A completely naked man changing a tire in Texas. A tire sales man complaining about too many keys on your daughters key chain. A repair shop not completing work on your vehicle that you paid for.
