Dometic Refer problem

So for some reason my refrigerator will only chill when running off power. If I run propane / auto the freezer gets cold but not the refer.. anyone ever ran into this? I have 15’ Heritage Glen 327RE.

Dometic refer not cooling

Hi guys, so when I’m running propane my refer will not cool down at all. If I run power shore or genny it stays cold. Freezer stays cold either way. Any ideas or suggestions?

Typically, absorption refrigerators cool better on LP than on AC (LP produces more heat than the electric element) but the process is the same either way.

That said, the back side of the cooling unit gets hotter on LP than on AC.
It is important to have good air flow across the back of the unit, especially if it is in a slide.

Does your unit have cooling fans in the back and are they working?

Since it cools better on AC power than on LP gas, your flue and/or orifice may need cleaning. There is a procedure for doing that in the manual for your fridge model.

Thanks Rambler. I’ll try that. This was the first trip of the year. I’m guessing your right.

Without knowing the make and model of your fridge, we can only give an idea why the fridge section is not cooling.

Open the door to the fridge, looking at the cooling fins on the upper back there should be a plastic clip on the right hand fin. Sometimes this clip can fall off the fin. Other times this clip has a tendency to slide down when traveling down the road.

Moving this clip up towards the top of the fin will lower the temperature in the fridge section.

I have been dealing with poor fridge performance since I have owned my 4 month old motorhome. Installed the fan add on to my cooling fins with not much help. Installed the replacement thermostat (link below) and finally see an improvement. After 12 hours the freezer was 9 degrees and the fridge 40. It is very hot and humid here in Arkansas too. Install was pretty simple too.
