Dometic refrigerator mostly works

2011 Rockwood Roo. Dometic Refrigerator (DM 2652) issues:

1. Refrigerator & Freezer stay cold using gas from morning until evening. Check light consistently goes on while sleeping (almost as if there were a timer).

2. Refrigerator does not light itself (manually lit) while on gas.

3. While on 120V, only the freezer works

What I have done:
-I have replaced thermistor inside refrigerator
-removed roof vent to check for obstructions (none visible)
-ruled out battery (just replaced)
-fan on coils works
-was going to replace ignitor, but $50 is a lot for a "maybe" solution.

Thanks for your thoughts.

The flue tube may be dirty or the igniter might need to be cleaned and adjusted. If you supply us with the model number we will be able to help you better.

Some generic observations because I don't know what model you have ......

The good news, because it works well during the hot part of the day, your absorption unit (the really expensive part on the back) is unlikely to be the problem.

The first thing I would like to know, is if you have 120 volts going to the heating element. Check at the insulated wires that disappear into the round chimney part of the absorption unit.

You should have an ammeter to check current draw to the heater. Should be in the 1-3 amp category, or 40-80 ohms resistance with heater disconnected. These are very generalized numbers.

The gas going off at bedtime is a total mystery to me. Are you near area 51?

Hope that gets you started.

You don't detail your setup. (shore Power/Battery/Solar). Is it possible that your battery voltage is dropping at night?
