DVD remote stopped working

I have a Linear series RV5070 multimedia receiver. The remote stopped working. The unit is four years old, worked fine till several months ago. It started with the remote being intermittent on some of the functions such as volume, fast forward, stop or pause.
Then the remote quit working completely. The DVD player works manually, but not with the remote. Yes I put in new batteries, cleaned the contacts, wipe down the face of the unit, etc. So I purchased a new remote , Thinking the sending unit went bad. The new remote does not operate either. I'm not sure if you are supposed to see any light or visible signal when you press an infrared remote, but nothing is visible on the remote controls.
Has anyone had this problem with their unit?

Since it is infrared, you will not see any light unless there is an indicator light to show when a signal is sent or received. Check to make sure the sensor on the unit is not covered. It is on the right side of the unit just under the name label. You can also try a reset of the unit with the reset button on the left side bottom next to USB. Infrared remotes can be checked to see if they have an output by going to somewhere like a Best Buy and use the little card they have to see if there is any infrared output.

You can see the infrared light from a remote with the help of your cell phone.

Set your phone like you are going to record a video, point the remote to your phone and press a button. You will see the light.
