Electric furnace/heater turns off before reaching desired temp(2005 Flagstaff SD-LTD)

Hello, I have a 2005 Flagstaff SD-LTD Pop-Up Camper. It has the original electric heater/furnace and analog thermostat. The heater turns on for a few minutes then clicks off well before reaching the desired temperature and then does not turn on again. From the thermostat I can then switch it off and then back on, then the same thing occurs. I don't know if that is a symptom of a bad thermostat or a bad heater. Thought I'd inquire here before replacing the heater and finding that it's an issue with the thermostat.

Alternatively, from the reading the posts here, maybe it's better to abandon the defective heater/thermostat and instead use a space heater. That just takes up space in this small pop-up camper.

Thanks for any advice,
Mark

Sounds more like a failure to light. Make sure you have a bottle full of gas, and it is turned on. You will also need a fully charged battery, or plugged in to shore power. After that, search the threads on here for furnace problems. Plenty of descriptions of operations, and some trouble shooting info. Sorry to direct you to a search, but there are circuit boards, various switches, ignition, and a whole sequence of events that must happen, in the correct order, before your furnace will work. Too much for me to remember.

May also get get the furnace model number and go the furnace manufacturer website, and see if they have a troubleshooting guide.

Good Luck.
