Everchill door latch

I really like the cooling performance and capacity of my Everchill WD-282-FWDC-6 12 vdc compressor refrigerator, but the door latch is not keeping things from falling out!

The lever that folds over the two door isn’t secure: door came open and food hit the floor after driving over some rough roads.

I added a bungee cord to hold the latch and doors in place, it was only a moderate improvement as stuff shifting in the fridge still cracked the door open by about 1/2”.

Has anyone solved this problem?

Has Everchill made any improvements to this design ?

We use the refrigerator bars to keep things from bumping into the door and keeping the items in if the door opens accidentally. (don't have your fridge)

You might want to check with the manufacturer. Perhaps they have a fix. Or the dealer if they're not too busy.

You're saying the latching level doesn't have any friction? If so, I'd be looking at the lever pivot point and determine if it got bent. They are mildly prone to snagging and when this occurs there would be less friction. I have the same fridge and I've not experienced this...yet.

Yes, the latching lever has no friction, it rotates easily. Even if it had friction, in the “closed” position it doesn’t put any pressure on the door.

The old plastic locking tab style would be an
improvement.

I have an 1" wide elastic ribbon with a loop on the one end I use to secure the lever. When not towing the elastic just hangs out of the way, when towing we slide the loop over the upper T of the lever.

My T lever still has some friction, but after reading of someone else's door opening I decided to add the elastic to hold the lever in its travel position.

Safe Travels.
