A very overpriced (in my opinion) example of what many of us are doing already using inexpensive computer fans and snap disc temp switches to keep air flow in the frig chimney and inside the frig box. It does have some fancy electronics JMHO

The Fridge Defend is more than a fan and a thermostat. In fact, the base model and the version they sold for years, has no fan. It is a control box with some temp sensors that will shut the fridge off if it detects an overheating condition and will turn it back on when things have cooled down. These sensors are placed where one shouldn't be pointing a fan, anyway, like the boiler.

But to answer the OPs question, I've considered it in the past, but now that alternatives like 12v compressor fridges are becoming mainstream, I will spend that money on a conversion for my present absorption fridge or a new fridge altogether.

I installed one on our previous rigs Norcold 10 cu ft fridge. Our new rig has a 12v fridge but if it had a gas/electric it would have been one of its first mods.

Once I got through the instructions a few times had a good handle on the task (the creator could use some work on writing the information both on his website and instructions, but is readily available for assistance on the phone. I found the hardest part of the install was reaching the temp probe up on the chimney to get it installed. It’s a bit awkward and needs to be up a certain amount. After that then rest is pretty easy with having some mechanical skills.

I do agree, their is far more to it than just being a device controlled fan. For anyone interested check out their site, plenty of info how it will shut down, restart the fridge to help keep a fire from destroying part of your life.
