Furnace just grenaded--loudly.

So, the DW and I are camping for thanksgiving weekend. Stayed in the camper last night, and the furnace was cycling on and off as needed, keeping us warm as it's supposed to. Same thing all day today, but it was so nice out, it didn't have to turn on much. Now tonight, we're sitting here watching TV, and suddenly the furnace starts making this god-awful, super loud grinding sound, followed by what sounded like many expensive small parts exploding and rattling around inside. I turned it off at the t-stat, and it kept running for a minute while it cycled off. Any thoughts as to what it could be? It sounds like a trip to the dealer for a new furnace to me...

I agree. The blower is really the only moving part that would come apart like you described. Probably don't need a whole new furnace just a blower wheel.

So, the ending to the story is--yes, it was the fan. Specifically, it was the MOUSE that decided to get inside the furnace, thought the fan housing was a nice place to hang out (while the fan wasn't running, obviously,) and then departed the planet when the furnace and fan kicked on again (taking my fan with it.)

The little $h1ts. It's war, and it's on!

Mickey is going to be mad at you. Better stay away from DW for a while!
