Furrion Vision S Power Source

Greetings! New Flagstaff Super Lite owner here. I just purchased a Vision S 3-camera system and I'm about to start the install. It looks pretty straightforward, but I'm not thrilled about requiring my TV lights on for proper functionality. Does anybody have any recommendations on where to tap in to a 12V power source on the trailer that is hot when the TV is on regardless of the headlights?

Thanks!
Andy

The problem is that the 12v DC from the 7-pin connector is normally wired with a direct connection to the trailer battery and is always hot regardless if the tow vehicle is even connected or not.

Exactly why I'm asking! ...and I figured this was the case. I could easily run a separate line from the TV, but in that case I'd sooner just accept it as it is.

You should also be concerned about the duty cycle on the CCD.

While the "Observation" cameras (as opposed to the Back-Up cameras) are heat sinked to remain on for longer; they do depend on air flow to keep from overheating. Running the camera for long periods when not actually towing would most likely shorten the life of the camera (too many variables to say how much shorter).

Backup cameras will burn out quickly if you try to wire them to be observation cameras.

Having to remember to flip on the parking lights to power the observation camera is not a great chore and the camera shuts off with the truck (unless you have an old truck, in which case forgetting the lights is a big deal anyway).

This is good advice, thanks. I don't intend to use them unless hitched (no observation camera over the front door), but I hadn't considered cooling issues.

You misunderstood about the "observation camera". It is a camera designed to be powered continuously while you drive mounted on the rear of the travel trailer (in essence a rear view mirror in use while driving).

While a "back up camera" is only designed to be used intermittently when the truck is in reverse using the power from the back up light circuit.

For a spy camera at the door, look into the Ring Door Bell system.
