generator

Looking at the LIFAN ESI3200iER-EFI generator inverter (fuel injected carb-for camping in the Rockies) to power my FRiver 251RKS electric fireplace and other stuff. Gen has 2, 20 amp ac receptacles. If i have a 20 amp to 30 amp adapter to the 50 amp trailer input, will it work? I want to run lights, charge battery and run electric fireplace/water heater and water pump, microwave? Not all at once.... Or should i go with the LIFAN ESI4000iER-EFI , more power and 30 amp RV outlet, expensive and weights 140 lbs.

You will be bound by the 20a output of the generator.

Just remember, your 50a R/V has TWO legs of 50a coming into it for a combined total of 100a.

Using a generator with 20a will give you 20% of what your R/V can draw.

As long as you are mindful of what you plan to run (and it doesn't exceed 20a) that generator will work just fine.

Most RV lights and the water pump are 12v. They will run off the battery but as battery voltage depleats, the CONverter will kick in to re-charge and use some of your available 120v power.

The fireplace may be about the limit of the generator as most likely will the microwave. You'd only be able to run one at a time. Run the water heater on propane.

Also keep in mind, every connection adds the possibility for resistance and heat. As long as you keep the adapters clean, dry and in good working order, you should be OK.

You could always use a 20a to 50a adapter and eliminate the 30a part.

Here is one such adapter..

i'm going to make a comment but this is only theoretical and do not take it as advice to do this. you would need to check, double check, and confirm this before you do it.

the key is that you say you have 50 amp shore power. and the 3200 generator has 2 20 amp receptacles. conceivably you could find an adapter that has 50 amp female and two 20 amp male connectors on it. several people have shown pictures of cheater adapters that have 30 amp male and 20 amp male going into a 50 amp female. you could use one of these with a 20 amp to 30 amp adapter. the key is that each leg of the 50 amp power system is an independent hot lead. so you should be able to power each hot lead with up to 20 amps. the neutral is shared and it would see up to a total of 40 amps, but this is ok as it is sized to carry 50 amps.

now what i don't know is how this would affect the generator. will it allow this type of connection? i'm assuming that the 3200 in the model number means 3200 watts. but each 20 amp receptacle could supply 2400 watts (4800 total). so is there another circuit breaker on the generator that would shut it down if the total of the two receptacles exceeds the 3200 max for the generator? also, if you have an EMS in the shore power line you may need to have a neutral to ground bond in the generator. does it have this? if not the normal approach is to insert a 'edison plug' into an unused receptacle on the generator. but you would be using both. how would you handle this?

also, i have read on the forums that these type of cheater plugs will not support gfci devices in the rv. would this be a factor?

i am not saying to do this. i am simply giving you a possible solution based upon you desire to use the 3200 watt generator. you must do your owh research to see if this is feasible, safe, and appropriate.

The above assumptions are not correct. You will be limited to the output of the generator. Having two 20 amp plugs does not mean it can supply 40 amps.
You may be happier with the larger generator but even it will have limitations.

fuel injected generator inverter

Went ahead and purchased LIFAN ESI4000iER-EFI, has 4000 watts, 30 amph
output and is FUEL INJECTED, should give me the power I need in Rocky Mountain Park and the fuel injected carb will help at that altitude.

problem solved.

i am aware that you will not get 40 amps (4800 watts) out of a generator that is only rated at 3200 watts. that is why i asked if there is a circuit breaker or shut down device if the total draw on the two 20 amp circuits exceeds the 3200 watts that the generator can provide.

I'm sure it's a nice generator but remember, it's only 3600 watts RUNNING and all the fuel injection will add is better fuel control in the thin air. Injection won't restore all the power lost by the high altitude.

Now if it was supercharged, returning your manifold pressures to "Sea Level values", that's another story.

You may want to check into owners manual and wiring diagram for the LIFAN ESI4000iER-EFI. The 4000 watts is the starting (surge) watts, not the running watts. I have a Champion 4000w/3500w generator with L5-30R, TT-30R and 5-20R outlets. Both 30amp outlets are protected by a single 25amp breaker. The 20amp outlet is protected by a 20amp breaker. One limiting factor is both 30amp outlets can only supply 25amps. It gets worse because the 20 amp is tied in series to the 30amp outlet. Effectively putting all the outlets in series. I can get 25amps from an Y adapter plugged into the L5-30R outlet or a 30 to 20 amp dogbone plugged into the TT-30R outlet.
