No, mine does not have this issue. Unless ambient temperature is too low, I can imagine freeze up occurring. I doubt this is the case in TX. If it is on max cold too long I imagine it could happen. Here is an article discussing this.

The first time I tried it (was too cold to test when i picked it up) it didn't blow cold air. I suspect there was a leak in the system and the refrigerant leaked out between time I bought it and time I used it months later. Air Excel replaced the unit with a brand new one under warranty. I suggest contacting Air Excel directly for advice, dealer sounds clueless as usual.
