Helium Fridge

Anyone get one of the new units this year with a helium Atwood fridge? If you have had an ammonia type any comparisons on performance?

Atwood refrigerators utilize a helium based cooling system strategically engineered to minimize excessive heat while providing superior durability and performance.

my buddy has one in his new rig.....for all I could tell it works bout the same?...no long term or out of level usage yet tho

Hydrogen?

The more common Dometic RV refrigerators use Ammonia; not hydrogen...

What make/models use hydrogen?

Correct me if I am wrong but all absorption fridges use hydrogen gas as the component that circulates the ammonia to generate cooling other than the new Atwood.

I believe the only thing in an ammonia system is ammonia.

Keep in mind that ammonia is NH3.

exactly. the fridge HAS ammonia, but by the absorbtion process, and heat create different almagamations of structures during the process.....such as hydrogen and water....so i guess if we wanted to be technical we would say it has N, H, and O....lol...im not well versed in the reaction of a helium fridge..but im interested now!!

Interesting for sure. Going to dig a little more on the Atwood...it appears that it too has ammonia so in theory it may have a hydrogen component as well. They call out an ammonia tube in the patent...how it's configured over the standard design is the key.

So basically they dont say it cools better....just that its safer than hydrogen absorbtion, and the increased weight of the helium helps the mixture sink better?....its still an absorbtion setup but with helium in the chamber....seems ok...my reg ol hydrogen bomb rv fridge works fine so far...lol

Here is a good comparison of the two technologies. It seems that the Atwood does not cool as well as the conventional technology....also a ton of info about replacing the guts should your fridge go south. These guys appear to be the real deal in rv fridge repair!
