Question HW tank electrical on/off switch

Ok been a fun weekend. Water all over the floor from toilet and now the hot water tank.

Ok so I switched the HW tank off when the water was shut off. So I thought? When it was time to turn it back on it just flipped and no click.. couple minutes later smell burning plastic. Eeeek.. ok so switch looks like half melted cheese. So my question is would it jus be a falty switch or is there a problem with the unit..

The gas still comes on.
Do I need to check anything or can I just replace the plug and connector (one leg was still in it .. taped up and put box back on)

Had to replace ours. Very easy to do, just finding the correct switch was the hardest thing.
