IRV66 HDMI audio out???

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the HDMI audio out to work on the irv66 while playing a dvd. I've tried every output and every setting to no avail.

It will only play audio through the antique component cables for the surround sound they decided to go with when they built this camper in 2014 for some reason lol. This is a replacement for the concertone zx700, another terrible unit. I could rant all day about these garbage units 🤬 but I'd rather just finalize this audio issue once and for all.

The surround sound is far too loud even on level 1 to watch any movies at night while anyone is sleeping.
(likely due to the "fix" they implemented on the irv66 to stop the audio from cutting out at low volumes they just turned it up by default, bravo..)

I'd like to be able to just use the TV speakers but even when I turn the surround sound off in the settings menu on the unit it still continues to play through them. There is HDMI audio out settings but they don't do anything. The optical audio jack is IN only. 😑 I've tried the HDMI ARC port but that only plays the tv audio through the surround but not when a DVD is running.

I'm really regretting this "plug and play replacement unit" there's not even any customer service I can contact for help so here I am! just about ready to rip all this crap out in favor of something from a company I've actually heard of 🙄 installing my car stereo was less fuss than this lol before I give in and start from scratch has anyone ran into this issue and found any fixes? Thank you!

Call Patrick Industries — Get a New One

Since you mentioned the high volume problem, I think you have the first version of the IRV66 which had several connectivity problems and other issues, but the uncontrollable volume issue was the most obvious thing that most people noticed.

In 2015, Patrick Industries would replace these units with just about no questions asked. I believe all they required from me was my address and a credit card in case I didn’t send my old unit back to them within a month or so. They didn’t put a hold on my card for the cost of the unit. They covered all shipping costs.

I don’t know if a new unit will take care of the problems you describe, because I don’t really understand the technicalities of what you are talking about, but the new unit I received has no issues at all for my purposes. I actually like my IRV66.

In case you don’t have this, here is a link for the owner’s manual for the IRV66:

Concertone Conversion Kit

When you changed over from the Concertone unit, did you use this kit? If not, do you think that maybe trying this could solve some problems?

So sorry to see you are having a problem like this! I know that I had issues getting mine connected up correctly, but after I got done I could connect a computer and ran my electric guitar with effects petals through it. I would begin with running an optical or digital cable from the TV to the stereo. I did not use the arc HDMI for anything other than audio for cable TV (or satellite) when available (over the air should work on that too). Run HDMI from the out in the back of the stereo to the TV HDMI 2 on the TV. That will be your CD viewing input. You can access the digital menu on the stereo only if you have a DVD in the unit. The menu will give you specific set ups for the unit.

SETUP -> AUDIO -> SPIDF OUT -> SPIDF/PCM or RAW
You will not get HDMI audio output when it is set to NONE.
Hope that helps.
Oh, note that HDMI audio out volume is variable according to receiver's volume so consider adjusting TV volume to match speaker's audio level.
