Question LED Electrical Noise

Yikes, I just replaced all the lights in my new Viking 16FB with LEDs and now all the radio picks up is static when any of the lights are on. Has anyone else run into this problem, and have you discovered an RFI noise filter that works to reduce the interference?

Did you out a dimmer (PWM) on them by any chance?

I'm all led. Yes, I pick up some noise on some lights. Funny thing is that it is not necessarily repeatable. depends on station and which light as it is in proximity to the antenna.

It can be annoying if a good song is playing and someone turns on the light that interferes. just a faint buzz.

Nope, no dimmer at all. It is worse with the light closest to the radio; but of course in a 16' box it's a little hard to get very far away ;-) Just an annoying downside to LED lighting (in addition to cost) I hadn't anticipated.

There is always FM. If the signal is strong enough to reach limiting in the receiver, there should be no LED noise.

We are not supposed to use non approved LEDs on our railroad due to possible RF interference. Most people still do because they are just so much better.

One thing I found out, if you key a portavle radio near an LED, the LED will glow.

FM - little noise on certain channels with certain lights on.

AM - lots of noise. we don't listen anyway.

I don't know if a filter will work. better grounding might help the radio. I need to properly ground my antenna this spring anyway. I'll report back if that helps.
